I wanted to thank you for this picture. My sister died when she was 30 leaving behind a 7 year old girl, Hallie. One week later her father had a girl that had been staying next door move in with him. They got married quickly. There is more to how and why she died that's very questionable. Anyway, Hallie's new stepmother was schizo and beat and abused Hallie a lot until Hallie left at 18 years old, which is what my sister had done. My family didn't know this because we couldn't stand her dad and never went up to see them. Hallie's around 35 now and asks me basically why we didn't 'save' her. My stepfather doesn't want my mother to see her or me even now. I think this picture might wake my mother up. Hallie for years would visit her mother's grave and leave notes and necklaces made from little flowers. Thank you extremely.

That story is unbelievably touching... the kind that you only see in movies. I wish you all the luck in the world with seeing her again, (if you do.) It could mean the world to her.
And it's my pleasure to have taken it... I don't think I really intend it to mean anything to anyone when I took it, but if it does, then I guess it's nothing but a bonus.
Let me know how things go... good luck.

Thank you for the comment and the fav. It's really, really clichΓ©'d. I'm still trying to decide if I like that or not hehe.

Ive just noticed that the bunny's expression looks as though it is being tickled to death, or pehaps crying......nice touch.....was it planned?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FallenTear In reply to SurrealNightmare [2005-07-07 22:30:53 +0000 UTC]

Haha, no, not really - the actual bunny's got a kinda sad expression on its face, and its eyes are closed, either like he's sleeping or like he's really miserable and just blocking everything out. So yeah, I'm gonna shut up about the expression on the rabbits face now *giggles*
See you soon Bex!!

This is truly great! I completely love the washed-out look. It makes it look old, worn, or maybe printed in a newspaper... The cemetery is perfect, including the broken cross, and the girl's pose, dress and bunny are all... well, perfect, what else can I say.

I didn't think global low contrast could be used so well... thank you for opening my eyes to this! (I would have never left a histogram not touching the black point... till now )

Thanks for the lovely comment! Hehe, the little girl loves having her photo taken, so she was an easy subject.

And also thanks for the - appreciated!

Aah! Great model.. you are lucky dont think any one of the small-size-people I know would pose for me like this..
the blond hair, the bunny doll, dress with flowers, summer day..
almost sounds like a cliche
BUT it is totaly not cuz the doll is on a beautiful abandoned graveyard..
totaly love the concept.. everyone has forgotten this place except for this litle child..who.. lost someone she loved a lot..
shiny beautiful day..with a sparkle of sadness..
love it!

Thanks for the comment Yeah, I guess I was aiming for a vague clichΓ©, (although that doesn't sound so great when I say it, but whatever, hehe) I was concidering calling it 'I Miss You Mommy' - and if I ever end up submitting any others of these shots (I took hundreds) then I might call it something like that.
Thanks once again - saw exactly what I was trying to portray

mr-darkstar [2005-06-21 06:34:48 +0000 UTC]

tisk tisk eli ....didnt your mother ever tell you not to stare at the sun?
the actual photo is pretty cool, but added contrast would really add alot,
the direct sunlight kinda messes with things, a trick you can use (and should) in this kinda situation is to hold something over(above the lense not blocking it) the camera so the lense is shaded (from light rays). you ever noticed how all the hard core cameras and film cameras have that black bit on the end of the lense that extends from the glass? ...same idea , reduces glare, if you can make anysense of that then cool meh.. i could explain more but ill restrain myself for the moment , hope my tip comes in handy if ive confused you just ask
i really like the idea and such of the composition, its really emotive how the girl is kinda looking down saddly at the foot of the grave stone.

and the bunny is so cool

FallenTear In reply to mr-darkstar [2005-06-21 15:25:08 +0000 UTC]

Haha, no, thanks for that Rory Not overly confused. I took two shots of this composition, one where I wasn't facing the sun, and this one, but the final produce of the other one just didn't feel quite right, and I preferred the angle of this - so yeah, although my mother will be very dissapointed, I decided to 'rebel' and go for this one I've edited the Gamma and Brightness of this picture, but when I tried the Contrast, it ended up looking over done, and I quite liked it looking quite (in my opinion) smokey.
Thanks for the tip, I'll remember that next time I'm disobaying mommy hehe.
I've had that bunny since I was three, she's called Emily lol.

Hehe, took loads of persuasion to get her to walk to the graveyard in a dress.
And I couldnt think of anything much to say sweetie
