Description Another assignment for color class: the top one is my triad and the bottom is analogous. The photo I used is of my orange cat, Tiger, in front of a crocheted afghan. The teacher let us break out more with this one - we could blend and paint more organically, which is easier for me than the solid blocks of color since it's closer to my normal style. Anyway, I think they turned out okay (sorry for the slanty photo) but I think I should've kept the background on the bottom one more toned down instead of using that bright green. >.> But I had felt there wasn't enough green...

Acryllic, about 6x10 in.

How is the top one triadic...? You can't use orange, blue and dark red together in a triadic color scheme.

It's actually yellow-orange, blue-green, and red-purple. The photo is a bit off, particularly where my color samples are, but I think you can see in the painting itself that it is a triadic color scheme.

Wow! Nice display! I feel you definitely captured the full concept of both Analogous and Triad coloring techniques! In fact I would have to say you hit them out of the park! I cannot help but indulge myself in how you didn't loose the look or feeling of the cat. Despite the color schemes you were able to capture his stare and character. Amazing job and hope you got a great grade on this!

Gosh, thank you! It was a very fun assignment for me. I'm glad to hear you say that about the cat's character; recently I lost him to kidney failure and I miss him so much. I'm so happy I have this painting to remember him by. Thank you again, yes, I did get a good grade.

So Sorry for your lost -_-... I thought I lost my full of character cat Charmander when I had to rush my husband to the Emergency room and we left the back door wide open! Ended up he was too fat to get back across the fences and walked the sidewalk home LMAO.

But What a wonderful Piece to have of the little guy! I hope you framed that! ^_~

He's a handsome boy! -You know you're quite talented yourself, are you thinking of going on to get your masters? (I'm assuming you're getting a BFA in art now because of the color, painting and figure drawing classes.)

Thank you. Well, I already graduated but those last two semesters were rather unpleasant to me so I reconsidered my idea of going to get my masters. It still might happen I suppose, but right now my dream is to illustrate children's books. I'm trying to build up my "illustration" portfolio.

Ahh, I had played around with that idea myself. I actually did illustrate a book and got published ("Grandma Can't Remember, So I Remember For Grandma" -the most depressing book ever) for a watercolor class I was in during my undergraduate. The teacher also worked at a publishing company as an illustrator so he had us all pitch ideas to the authors and compete to get the job. He failed to tell us (or maybe I didn't hear him) that we only had a week to get the images finished. It's the most stress I think I've ever been under, it totally slayed me.
But really, I'm pretty sure they're always looking for people to illustrate Baha'i kids books. Have you looked into that?

Really?! Coolness! Oh, yeah, that would be horribly stressful. I just looked it up on amazon so I got to see a few of your illustrations--very nice! The story does seem awfully sad though.

I want to illustrate Baha'i childrens books, yes, but I'm not sure where to start. Special Ideas, maybe? I have made some illustrations for my own Sunday school class for coloring and I've drawn a few coloring pages for Ruhi 3 at someone's request. Do you have any suggestions for me at how to start?

Actually there was a guy in the Norman, OK Baha'i community that was wanting me to illustrate a kids book for him but I didn't have the time -I could give him a call and see if he still needs an illustrator? He wanted a Baha'i to do the drawings but I don't think it was for money, just to see if he could have a finished product to publish in a small quantity maybe...
The only way I know of to start is by contacting the Baha'i publishing companies and magazines to inquire how to go about it. Or write the books yourself

Oooh, interesting. Even if not for money, I'm still interested. Perhaps you could show him my gallery and see if it's what he wants (if he still needs an illustrator)?

Thanks, yeah, that's a good idea. Haha, and writing the books myself is a very lovely prospect. I actually do have a children's story written and the lay out drawn, but it's not Baha'i themed. I'm still trying to find the "look" I want for the illustrations. But once I do, I was thinking about showing it around to various places. If I ever get the illustrations sorted out, could I show them to you first? And get advice?

Of course, I'd be delighted to!!!
-And I'll email him about the book and see where he's at with it.
