Macready was looking through some footage on a discarded camera the crew found while exploring the abandoned base. At first, it was nothing but two hours of pitch black video. No sound, no video, just blackness. Mac was about to set the camera back down when suddenly the footage turned to an open door, the door to the outside of the base.

"S-Stay away! I... I HAVE A GUN!" someone on the video shouted.

Mac stared intently at the footage of the door. What could possibly be out there that scared this person so much? Was it the cause of the disappearance of the people in the base? For 5 minutes of film, the person just continued to scream threats at the open door. Then the silhouette of a child came to the door. The person opened fire, startling Mac.

"Jesus! Th-That was a kid! Why did he-"

Then four tentacles sprouted from the child's back and the child let out a demonic screech. The person that fired screamed in terror before the child charged him, knocking the camera to the floor and causing the lens to crack. After a few seconds of screaming, the sound of a neck snapping chilled Mac to the bone. A few moments of silence later, the child from the door picked up the camera and stared into it.

Mac was shocked by the child's appearance; pale skin, malnourished body, huge bulging blue eyes, pointed ears, bald head, and the four tentacles from its back.

Then the footage ended. Mac shivered, not from the cold, but from shock. Was this what caused the disappearances? And if so, why?

"Hey, Mac! You find anything??" Nauls called out.

"Uh, yeah! You guys might wanna see this!" Mac replied, taking the camera back to the others.

I had this AU for a while, despite being unable to watch the whole movie. It was brought back to my attention thanks to fellow Deviant .

The little guy you see here is "Thingie", an alien that is very much like the original The Thing, but is more curious about humans than wanting to replace them. "Thingie" uses human DNA to take the forms of other people to learn how humans function. Even his internal organs change to mimic human organs!
