It's funny that I saw this on Tumblr first. I think you mentioned that this was a HTTYD2 reference in that post... and if you hadn't this reference would have flown completely over my head.Β Β
This is a breath-taking piece, and I just love how Ratchet and Meredith look at each other. You can see the motherly love and awe in Meredith's eyes as she gazes at her now grown-up son, and you can also see the love Ratchet has as he nuzzles his cheek into his mother's hand. It's a scene that just conveys so much emotion, and I can feel my heart melt at the sight of these two.Β Β Β Β

I live for wordless scenes, and just, letting the atmosphere and emotion speak for themselves. To me, it makes it all the more heartwarming and powerful. And that scene in HTTYD2 is freaking amazing, and when it was proposed to me, I knew I had to draw it!

I think the only actual reason why they never ever said anything about Ratchet's mother, is the fact that they really never had an idea for her... I mean - it would actually make sense in that case :/

Of course that's the actual reason. IG probably only started to think of Ratchet and Clank's histories during the making of the Future trilogy. I mean, that's apparent with how Ratchet is proclaimed as 'the last lombax in the universe'... like hello IG? Remember Angela? XD

Yeah, I guess that this "The last Lombax..." was only for R&C1 and then, IG just didn't think about it anymore.
But this also has the 2nd hole - some R&C Info Sites, Books or Comics'es say, that, while the War, a lot of Lombaxes moved to another Planet, just in Secret so even Azimuth didn't know. I dunno if it is an official/confirmed info, but it would be interesting.
