Maltese name: Lhudi
Occurrence in the local seas: Frequent
habitat in sea: near the shore, somewhat near steep underwater rock, although also seen in shallow areas too.
other info: grazes among rocks and seaweed, or in holes usually solitary, but gathers in groups in sunset. Males more brightly coloured than females. all individuals are born as females, than change sex to male as they grow in size. the sex change can only occur if only favorable temperatures are available.

all Wrasse species are transsexual fish , but it depends on the which species with which sex they are born.
