Description Compilation of unfinished work I thought I'd share. Some of these are just sketches and will stay unfinished, others I'm -hoping- I can get to and finish before I start feeling too antsy about the sketch. After a while I tend to sneer at my sketches because of anatomy problems or other nit picky issues.

The work here is all from this year I'm sure, many are recent. The only work that isn't is the second to last on the bottom right (Kurai), I did that last year I think...

Gosh these are beautiful. I love how you greyscale paint them in ;n; its a really nice look
I'm wondering, though, does that help with painting later on, to have the shadows in like that?

I'll answer from this account haha.

For some reason I use basic grayscale (or monotone) colors for my artwork, the gradually build up color. I guess this can be a good thing since you can control how vivid the colors will be in the final product. Sure you can edit the Hue/Saturation, but to save time without having to lasso chunks of super bright color out is useful.

I have recently found out that for basic sketches and blocking in color-the painting option in PS CS5 and CS6 is super helpful. Instead of the brush settings controlling your opacity, your pen pressure is!

Lets say you have a hard round brush with the 'transfer' setting on, even though the ends fade out a bit-the opacity will still be at 'x' amount. Turn the painting brush setting on and depending on how hard you press your pen/stylus is how dense the result will be! Super cool, but may not work with a mouse or touch pad as it relies on pen pressure. The better pressure your pen has, the better the results. I use a Bamboo Fun and still get great results. (tough tablets!)

Hope that answers your question.

Oh, that makes sense. I tend to overuse the Hue/Saturation tools quite a bit because I'm bad at color schemes in general. Though I don't paint digitally a lot anyways(No time with school and a bunch of other stuff going on, I'm hoping to get a chance to practice more during summertime)

I have photoshop CS5, and I use the painting option for everything. xD I tried the "essentials" for a bit and was never happy with the results, so went back to painting very quickly.

I've never used essentials, but the program did come with the tablet that I had got in a trade a few years ago. My sister decided to try it out and she didn't like it much compared to the CS versions. XD Digital took a few months for me to get used to.

The first time I opened that program in HS in 11th grade, I had a 3000+px size canvas zoomed in at 600% and drawing with a 1px brush. I had no clue what I was doing and was thinking how in the world could these game artists do what they do with this program.

Then I learned about the zoom tool, got into some tutorials, and spent more time in the art room than I did any other classroom in 12th grade. I'm still learning, it's like learning how to ride a bike, then knowing how to do cool tricks.

Oh gosh xD Luckily when I started out doing digital I had a few friends who already knew a bit about it, so they helped me get started. And sometimes I feel like the internet is one of the best teachers, I've learned so much from tutorials and such all over the internet, and all at my own pace, unlike in art classes.

Unfortunately, though we have CS3 at our school, its only on a limited number of computers, and none of them are in the art wing. Besides the fact that I can't install my tablet there so I'd have to work with a mouse which sucks. So the only time I have to draw digitally is at home, and most of my time here is spent on homework and studying for tests and all sorts of wonderful stuff like that. So I just try to fit art in wherever I can xD

Yeah, we only had a few computers but I was able to set aside time to teach myself. We had the large intous3 tablets and CS3 at the time. I had CS at home but was forced to use a mouse (what joy that is)

Either way, have fun learning when you can.
