Either play fetch or he can use it as a starter weapon.

(The latter being a Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild reference. The Tree Branch is one of many weapons you find, but it does not do much damage.)

Yeah, I admit, he's thematically just this reptilian scaly puppy, with some residual cat traits too. Sort of like putting the blueprints for a lizard, a puppy and a kitty all in a creative blender and you get a Drex.
