Description
Rainbow-Bellied Wyvern, a.k.a the prisma-dragon
A distant cousin of the considerably larger desert wyvern, these small draconids live in forests and on cliffs, where their prominent bony plates and unassuming coloration provide them with camouflage as they hunt for small birds and rodents. Despite appearances, prisma-dragons don't actually fly, preferring to use their wings to glide from a high perch or provide extra lift when jumping. Otherwise, the wings remain folded against their forelegs as they crawl up trees and rocks.
When threatened, a prisma-dragon employs its famous multi-colored belly plates by flashing the underside of its tail to dumbfound predators, allowing the prisma-dragon time to escape.
Let me be clear: this is not intended to be an original species. I just decided to color it with rainbow belly plates and then wondering what they were for, I made up an explanation. So for the sake of completeness, I'm including that here.
This is for a coloring contest held by SampleDragon ! Very excited to be participating, and this was a wonderful project to work on just for fun.
