I have never known peace
Like the damp grass that yields to me
I have never known hunger
Like these insects that feast on me

-on repeat.

A nameless trespasser lies in half-shadow amidst sparse sedge in the ruins of standing stones on a late summer's evening. Her dark fur blends with the hollows of the ground, her eye glows weakly, her shattered charred yew wood scattered in fragments in the grass. The figure of a young fawn lies nearby, though only she can see it. The rippling ruins of the ground encircle them in a cradle woven of rushes and moss, cracked stone, and cogarnach of time gone. Their hearts beat as one.

This piece was difficult and entirely out of my comfort zones. I must've used half the brushes in my library in an attempt to work out the grass (which I realized I haven't a clue how to draw from an aeiral point of view). The sedge and fawn were major challenges - I couldn't find any good birds eye references of either, and rushes do not grow where I live so I was out of luck. A whole ton was learned here. There are things I'd do differently and things I'm not quite happy with, which after hours of attempting I could not fix. So onward it is, with new lessons in tow!

Also: I tried to track my process and put together a little guide here if it is of interest or help to anyone.
