Really does look like a movie- I guess one minor issue, our protagonist, I suppose, isn't looking at the monster.

Well the idea for me was, him to be like the accumulation of the spirits of the kid's ancestors. Since they know him and understand how he feels they try to tell him that everything is gonna be alright. "The Elder" just by being in the spiritual world, can see things from a different perspective and it's telling the kid that things aren't as serious as he makes them to be in his head.
