Looks like that alien back there had a wheels-up landing... BTW, amazing the difference some cleaning and reinstalled chrome makes!

I agree 100%. But today I discovered a lot more rust than I anticipated... sigh.

I've done some welding in school. I've done some stick and MIG. It was pretty easy to get the hang of it.

Oxy-acetylene welding can be fun. Not so much fun if you're welding rust, though.

But are we talking a little Southwest rust or some real Northeast rust? When you're welding frames, the surface stuff pops off, but the serious stuff pops apart.

No fun. I've had a couple cars succumb that that, although we managed to weld the torsion bar on my Plymouth to some pieces of heavy flat stock and found enough spots on the subframe to actually weld to so it could hang on a few more years before the A-arm rusted apart. But for a while we were making more holes than finding places to grab!
With the Oregon plate on the one car, I thought maybe you were lucky and found them up in the Dalles.

Boy, you made'em last til the bitter end!
I've had a few cars from eastern OR/WA.... not much rot.

Yeah, but the engine was still starting easy and running well when I finally let it go. Maybe I should've found a replacement A-arm from somewhere, but I was rebuilding another car, working and going to college and just didn't have the time. And I had just picked up an old '82 Charger as a replacement. But the Valiant was by far the best $50.00 investment I made and took me all over for seven years.
I remember picking up some GTO parts from out that way that were in great shape, that's what made me think of it.

Don't think I could've asked for a better first car, even if it took me a year to do all the bodywork it needed to get it on the road. Learned that I couldn't earn a living doing it, if nothing else.
