Description One of the cutest and probably best psychic types ever.<3
My Jellybean may be slow, but she is tough and can take hits as well as dish out lots of damage. Also, try petting a solosis or its evolutions in Pokémon-Amie. It´s fun.X3

My artblock seems to be slowly retreating. I´ve been a lot more productive this last week. Hopefully this goes on and I can finish the art I owe to my fellow deviants.

Also, Happy New Year to you guys!8D

Aww I really love how you've made this Reuniclus ^^

finiens In reply to DarthTriforce [2014-01-30 15:50:21 +0000 UTC]

Thank you.^^
Reuniclus is such a cute and well designed Pokémon. Strange it is so rarely seen in wifi teams, it has potential as a great wall and/or a special sweeper, depending on its nature and EV-spread.

DarthTriforce In reply to finiens [2014-01-30 16:43:51 +0000 UTC]

It's probably because many people think it'd die to easy? As most psychic types do die to easy, especially if not use rightly xD

I mean I've never really used Reuniclus in my life, but I believe ya anyhow since you're an experienced battler ^_^ plus it would spring a moment of surprise since no one seems to use it much which is something you can use to your advantage.

A lot of them have horrible defence, that´s true. But Reuniclus isn´t one of them. It has very high HP and decent defense stats, so it can take two hits from most offensice pokémon, heal up and boost itself with calm minds. Bearing crits from its opponents it´s a great set up sweeper that can hardly be taken down. Especially since its ability blocks damage from status moves, weather, items, entry hazards and leech seed. Sadly my opponents crit or flinch Jellybean all the time, so I rarely manage a real sweep with it. I really don´t know why, but it´s at least in every second battle. Poor girl.:/

DarthTriforce In reply to finiens [2014-01-30 17:29:37 +0000 UTC]

Jeez that really sucks... I swear crits and moves that make the opponent flinch should just be out of the question, it's quite annoying to be honest.

They are part of the game... it´s just a pain when pokémon like Jirachi or Togekiss solely rely on this flinching-strategy.:/

hmm... with this I see that you have a deep understanding of shading unusual objects. Partly transparent things are really tricky, I wouldn't have pull it off like you did

It took me several tries and a lot of experimenting until I found a way to make the jelly look like... well, jelly.XD
This painting was definitely fun and helped me a bit to get out of my recent artblock.

It´s going slow, but it gets better every day. It´s just sad because I wanted to open commissions again this month, after doing lots of personal artworks. So far I couldn´t finish a third of these paintings because of the artblock. Meaning I have to keep commissions closed for another two months or so.:/

Ricchin In reply to finiens [2014-01-13 19:30:59 +0000 UTC]

I know... I'm going thru it myself now, too.
I wanted to open commissions like few months ago but my bad mood happeend and everytning.
Right now I try to draw as much as I can stand, or doodling that is. I rarely do that. Mostly I draw with the intent of drawing a full blown work, not just sketches that I may or may not finish. And despite feeling a little weird I like the changes, I think they're making me better
Hope you will overcome your artblock soon, I wish you the best

I like to sketch traditionally since a few months ago... not that I produce much (that´s worth showing others, at least), but it´s generally more fun than digital art right now. I love the feeling and sound of a pencil scratching over thick paper.X3

Thanks.;w;
Whatever helps us, I guess. I´m stuck with the lineart for a kiriban right now. It´s going very slow, but I´ll probably finish it in the next few days and can start colouring. Let´s see how that´ll work out.^^'

Ricchin In reply to finiens [2014-01-14 19:24:07 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, if I care to do good enough work like if always do in photoshop, traditional sketches are still much more precise and detailed. I dont have a good grasp of drawing with tablet pen still. It aggravates me. And sound of pencil is nice, I agree

I don't want to think with how many works I'm stuck on the sketch stage.

No idea how's it for you, but I put most of the work in sketch, so I don't need to think much later and figure things out, just draw.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

finiens In reply to Ricchin [2014-01-18 16:54:07 +0000 UTC]

Maybe you should change the tip you are using for your pen? I know that I work better with the plain black ones in general, but there´s also the one with the little spring in it that is just great for drawing hair and fur... it´s all about the feel of the pen on the tablet. For example a friend of mine likes to put a sheet of paper on her tablet when she draws with it.

I collect these sketches in one PS or SAI file and save them for later. When I have to do a commission or reference sheet the half-finished poses in there really come in handy.^^

I always work my way up from a very rough sketch to such a detailed one that I really just have to carefully trace the lines clean onto the lineart layer. One third of the time I spent on a painting is invested in the sketch(es), one third in the lineart and the last third in the colouring. Which one is the most/least fun depends solely on the respective painting, though. Normally it´s the sketch, but if I´m out of ideas this can become a really tedious work, too.:/

Ricchin In reply to finiens [2014-01-18 21:03:16 +0000 UTC]

Hm.. really? I should try the paper sheet on tablet thing...
But you know, what's most problematic for me is that I can't angle my tablet like I do with traditional canvas. I know I'm not supposed to do that and use my wrist more, but it's too tiring.

Yea, I like sketches the most, because it's fun...
and sometimes when I have to colour and don't really have an idea how... the process of figuring it out, redoing the thing and stuff is so awful... usualy after such an experience I develop an artblock :/

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

finiens In reply to Ricchin [2014-01-20 11:56:55 +0000 UTC]

For a long time I mostly drew in school, because I was always finished pretty fast with the tasks the teachers gave us, so I used the time left for doodeling in my folders. Angling them was not really an otion, because it would have drawn too much attention to me. The teachers didn´t really like that habbit of mine.XD So I never got accustomed to angling a canvas. Never thought that would help me with drawing with a tablet later.

Yeah... sometimes a painting just works out perfectly, from sketch to colouring like you imagined, but if you get stuck at one point it is so very, very frustrating. I tend to leave such a painting lying around and start on a new one until I find the motivation to continue with the first. Sometimes I´m working on three or four paintings simultaneously. That´s why occassionally my gallery is catching dust for a few weeks and is then flooded with several paintings in short intervals.^^'

Oh, and by any chance, did you go to some art related school? I don't seem to remember if you've mentioned anything of the sort. Well, I wouldn't be surprised if you did. And if I'm supposed to know that already, sorry, I'm such a forgetful person ^^"

Oh yeah, I can understand that xD I, on the other hand, finish maybe 1 out of every10 sketches. Maybe a bit more. Reason why my gallery doesn't have many works really. And that's why my stash of unfinished works just piles up constantly >.< the worst part is, I like most of them and despite that I can't finish them somehow...

I studied biology until last year and now have my masters degree.

You should collect them in an artdump and upload them. I´d love to see what you´ve been working on.: D

Oh that's cool ^^ You work in the field now? If you don't mind me asking.
I was really THIS close to studying biology myself... I don't know why I found myself studying english in the end xP And I'm not seeing myself getting much smarter  ^^"

Actually, when I say "unfinished" I really mean "barely started" xD

Well, I planned to submit a batch of sketches, and doodles soo... yeah xD

I´d love to work, but so far I didn´t find a job.:/
It´s really hard, since in germany genetics and biotechnology, the field I´m specialized in, are not very popular. Research in this field is constricted to universities and a handfull of governmental institutes, since our politicians pretty much forbade genetic engineering one year after I started with my studies. It´s depressing, really.

English is such a nice language. I don´t know... in the last years I wrote and read much more english than german. Sometimes I even think in english or don´t remember a german word, but the english one instead.XD

I´m looking forward to them.:3

Really? That suck, such bad luck. I can symphatize, unemployment in my country is pretty high and there's no job in my city, everyone's going abroad or to capitol. Gonna do that myself, after graduation. Many of my friends can't find jobs, even those meager ones so they could bring any money home.

Oh yeah, since I've started to really learn english I have similar problems xD But really, it's frustraiting, when I speak in english outside university, coz no one can understand my british accent xD And I have a feeling that after a few years abroad I'll forget how to speak polish ^^" I'm easily influenced like that.

finiens In reply to Ricchin [2014-01-25 17:50:40 +0000 UTC]

It just seems so hypocritical, our economics complaining about missing qualified workers everywhere and me and pretty much my whole circle of friends and fellow students being unemployed or working at McDonald´s out of sheer desperation. Even though we graduated excellently. And then Angela Merkel invites 100 000 young spaniards to come and work in germany because they are unemployed in their homeland.ö____ö
It´s like a kick in the stomach from our dear politicians. They don´t realize there is no absence of trained employees, just unwillingness of the employers to pay adequate wages for a german M.Sc. or PhD, while they can possibly rip off some poor foreign guy who has the same education, but is willing to work for half of the money because he doesn´t know any better. It´s quite sad, really.
I just hope you´ll be more lucky than me when the time comes to look for a job.:/

I get what you mean.XD
I fear it would be the same for me. Like the storage room in the brain is exactly big enough to hold all of only one language at a time. Whenever I start learning another, some of the vocabulary of the first language gets thrown out.

Ricchin In reply to finiens [2014-01-25 18:23:45 +0000 UTC]

I feel for you, really, our politicians aren't much better. No matter how much of an accomplished student you are and how many master degrees you have, you'll probably end washing dishes or moping the floors. And people escape through the border because our country doesn't value young people with good education and are not willing to pay accordingly. Well, maybe apart from the biggest cities from what I hear, but that remains to be seen... Need to check that myself. But really. I'd rather be abroad if anything.

Yes yes, sometimes when I learn new stuff, I wonder what have I forgotten because of it xD

finiens In reply to Raccun [2014-01-05 14:19:38 +0000 UTC]

Hmmhmm.

I guess an artblock is the perfect time to try out some stuff you always wanted. It was the first time for me to draw something with a jelly-like structure. It took a few tries to figure it out, but I´m pretty content with the result.^^

Rayshka In reply to finiens [2014-01-06 21:38:06 +0000 UTC]

No problem c:

Yep,it's pretty fun to practice somethings you've always wanted to.I imagine that this jelly structure was kinda hard to do,the anatomy is completely different ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

finiens In reply to Rayshka [2014-01-06 21:59:21 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes.XD
I had to work with an overlay-layer as a base for the jelly and add several layers with different opacities each for the lights and the shading, so I could give the impression of overlapping where it was needed. A bit tricky, but also pretty fun.CX

Rayshka In reply to finiens [2014-01-07 15:49:50 +0000 UTC]

These kind of drawings are usually experimenting techniques with layers and colors, like chemistry if I can say that way XD - But it's the best way to learn how to work with different types of anatomy c:

Since I´m still a bit artblocked I try out different styles and techniques, it helps me to get out of this faster. I did soft shading/lighting for a long time until I discovered cell shading to be my favourite style. It´s nice to go back to the roots sometimes.
