Description                                                            Draft 1

The sun felt warm on Ninian's exposed face, neck and chest. It was one of her favorite things about living in Rashada. The city itself was small, and if anyone on the streets could see her right now, they would instantly recognize her. She kept her senss perked, as her aunt was right in the house below her making supper in time for her husband to get home. If she knew that Ninian was on the roof slacking off, she would be so furious that she may send Ninian to bed without dinner. Ninian knew she should be setting the table, but she just loved how the sun felt shining, warm and bright, against the dull orange of the roof. It warmed the roofing like a gentle caress of flame and permeated Ninian's being.

Ninian heard a door slam shut below her. "Huh", she thought to herself, "Uncle James must be home." She went back to sunbathing for a second before abruptly jumping to her feet. "Uncle James is home!" she exclaimed, finally snapping o her senses. She hurriedly made her way down through the trapdoor that led through the pantry to the roof. Anyone that would have looked up from the street would have only seen a flash of golden hair, and possibly the hem of a dress slightly lighter than the color of the sky. She rushed into the kitchen and quickly set up table settings in the dining room.

As Ninian was setting down the last plate, her uncle walked in the dining room door. He looked at her briefly, switched his attention to the table, and jokingly remarked, "Well I'll be darned. The dwarves must have taken to the sky." Ninian smirked as her uncle's hearty laugh boomed throughout the room. She failed in comparison to his hulking form of muscle and scraggily hair. In comparison to the small, grey-eyed twenty year old, his form could have swallowed her completely. This was expected of him however, as he was the leading blacksmith in Rashada. Many young men had thought of asking for Ninian's hand. One even came as close as knocking on the door, but after seeing Uncle James in the doorframe, he ran off faster than an elvish sprinter.

Ninian's aunt strutted through the doorway and looked at her husband with a frown. "That's enough of that," she said as she scanned the room, stopping on Ninian. "And where have you been? I havn't seen you for at least an hour!"

Ninian swiftly thought of an excuse. "I was at the town square Aunt Lin," she said. "Did you see that the town festival is next week?"

Aunt Lin gave her a glare. "You mean that freak festival?"

"It's not a freak festival!" exclaimed Ninian. "It's a festival for all the people with Dvai to..."

"It's just a festival of freaks showing off!" her Aunt interjected. "Now come help me put supper on the table."

Ninian sighed heavily and assisted in bringing in the meal. After they ate, she was assigned to cleaning the table and washing the dishes. When she was done, she hurriedly adjourned to her bedroom. It was a small room in the back of the house. Her Aunt and Uncle's room was at the other end of the hall, so they couldn't be disturbed by her at night. Ninian liked this fact, because it allowed her to work long into the night on her own projects without waking them up. This particular project of Ninian's happened to be an outfit for the Annual Dvas Festival. She had to make sure that she took the materials into her room and hid them swiftly in case her Aunt noticed anything suspicious. She hid everything in a hiding spot that she had come across under one of her floorboards next to her bedstand. This morning while sunbathing, Ninian had found the last piece that she needed for the outfit; A blue drake's scale.

Praeceus made his way through the throng in the street noisily. His heavy armor clanked loudly and the cobblestones beneath him groaned under the weight. Praeceus himself wasn't a small man either. Standing at a towering six foot-two inches and nearly two hundred pounds of muscle, he was quite the formidable man to gaze upon. The normally warm day was made into a scorching inferno by the containment of steel plates he wore. Sweat formed at his brow as Praeceus painstakingly made his way to Research District 2.

As Praeceus got closer to his destination, the crowd started to thin. Almost no one came to this district except for the occasional supplier. This place was home to the elven sector of Grynas, and it was unwise to disturb a working elf. Praeceus remembered one of his fellow Guardians had done so once, and he is now missing his right ear. Now, that particular Guardian had to everything yelled at him from the left side. Praeceus shuddered as his hand rubbed against his helmet where his ear sat comfortable padded.

Praeceus stopped outside of a large, ornate wooden door. He hesitated for a second thinking about whether or not this was a good idea before knocking on the door 3 times briskly. From the other side he heard a series of muffled profanities and hurried footsteps. He backed up a few steps and drew his shield for all the good it would do him. If the elf behind the door threw dvas at him, it would penetrate that shield like it was made of pudding. The door swung open violently to reveal a tall, female elf covered in black soot. Praeceus cringed in anticipation.

"Who thinks he is man enough to interrupt my research at a time like this!" she exclaimed. The elf stared out for a few seconds, and as her eyes adjusted to the light she saw a hunched over Nak'Tuk behind a large silver shield.

        "Praeceus?" the elf asked.

Praeceus peeked over his shield while responding with a questioning "Aye?"

"Praeceus!" the elf exclaimed as she ran out of the doorway at the Nak'Tuk.

"Kat?" said Praeceus as he was assaulted in the street, shield sprawling on the stone.

"So it is you," Kat said. "What brings you here after all this time?"

"I was told to come here to pick up plans for the Dvai Festival in Rashada, but I did not expect to see you here."

"The plans for the Dvai Festival? Right!" exclaimed Kat. "I was told there would be someone to pick those up. Give me a moment." Kat rushed into the building and Praeceus could hear lots of papers being rearranged and glass being shuffled. He stood and brushed off the dirt from his shield. Kat rushed back out of the building cradling a long tube with an elaborate gold pattern on it which was mimicked on Praeceus' shield face.

"Here they are," Kat said handing Praeceus the tube.

"Thank you Kat," Praeceus said as he tucked the tube away in his armor.

Kat looked Praeceus up and down before saying "So you're a Grynas Guardian now?"

Praeceus protruded his chest proudly. "I am. Not everyone can wear this armor you know."
"It looks good on you," Kat said sincerely.

"Thank you. I worked hard for it," Praeceus said. "I should be returning to the barracks. It was nice to see you again."

"And you as well Praeceus," Kat said.

Praeceus made his way back down the road to the barracks. Kat watched until he turned a corner, then she returned back into the building to continue her research. "To think," she said. "He actually became a Guardian." She chuckled a little before getting back to work at her desk. "Now where did I put that powdered manaroot?"
