Traditional |trəˈdi sh ənl|
"adjective"
existing in or as part of a tradition; long-established
• produced, done, or used in accordance with tradition : a traditional fish soup.
• habitually done, used, or found : the traditional drinks in the clubhouse.
• (of a person or group) adhering to tradition, or to a particular tradition.
Makeup dates as far back Ancient Egypt over 3,000 years ago,
as for how it relates to Art?...
"the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting, sculpture, fabric, etc...
producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.
Painting:
~meant literally, is the practice of applying color to a surface (support) such as, e.g. paper, canvas, wood, glass, people, lacquer or concrete.
~Art is too diverse to have labels and I know it can get messy with categorizing for databases and all, but Ultimately, it just breaks down to the Expression of one's self..."

also I think "non-traditional art" generally refers to digital works.

Indigo76 In reply to Mozaiciris [2008-12-10 05:51:27 +0000 UTC]
Absolutely Correct!
"traditional" means Painting, Sculpture, Drawing, Pen, Ink, Printmaking, etc, like that...
"nontraditional" would be any kind with little or no past history, like "Conceptual","Computer Art",
"Video Art" and like that.
The difference between Traditional and Non-Traditional is simply a matter of following the "trade" rules
of an established Art technique or organization or not... Ultimately, all living beings follow a
inherent creative process, "tradition" is simply an acknowledgement of the experiences and methodologies
of our predecessors and a willingness to preserve their point of view.
~As Cited by: "Mark A. Gallegos, B.F.A."
So under the circumstances, The photography,(being digital) is Non-Traditional, but the Make-up & cosmetic work
is Traditional in reference to physical application.
"Cheers!"
