I think his reasoning (officially) is more along the lines of "it's ruining your own writing skills". That said, he probably came across some Arya / Olenna fanfiction or something. For some reason, FF on Archive Of Our Own appears to be of a solidly good quality. Perhaps it's something about those hipsters that gives them the ability to spell.
