I use rembrandt pastels XD
and for the hair i usually start with an undertone of a dark color then go over it in lines like fur with lighter colors. You just have to add more lines and watch the details around certain areas b/c some areas need certain detail

rembrants... ah... the might explain my situation. i'm using alpha pastels. which are very inexpensive. thank you for the telling me your steps. wich you could show me though.
