I think that thinner outlines is a nice direction to take if you plan to work on something that has a lot of details and complexity. However I do feel that what you've drawn previously does already capture the expressions and poses of the characters well. I can't comment from experience for which approach might be faster, easier, reliable etc. but for me it appears that this and the older technique both look good and one might work better than the other in different situations. Perhaps you could use thicker outlines for smaller resolution artworks such as avatars (I think that they look better when viewed from far away) and work with thinner outlines when you feel like committing to details that could be lost on "simplified" approach that thicker outlines might require.
In other words, I think that this and the previous techniques both look good, keep experimenting!

My pleasure!
I've been rather stubborn with my style, I hope that in near future I'll be able to experiment with similar approach of thinner outlines and more detail, as you have. On my own artwork I seem to have issues capturing the organic and fluffy look of an Avali, which might be result of using too thick and consistent outlines.
