I haven't been very active here lately, have I? Sorry about that.
I don't usually post these, but whenever I send gifts to my friends I decorate the boxes with all sorts of images. This is a portrait of Syd Barrett based on a photo of him from 1970, done for a friend of mine who's a big fan of Pink Floyd. It doesn't look much like Syd, but I thought it was cute and I like some of the things I did with it.

Awwww, thank you! I'm so glad you like this/my style/the idea. I like sending things to people, and since I'm terrible at writing letters I make up for it with drawing.
Syd Barrett is a sort of an interesting person from music history. He was the original frontman, guitarist, and main songwriter for Pink Floyd, but he was only around for their first two albums before leaving/being forced out of the band because his schizophrenia was making him increasingly difficult to work with. His work with Pink Floyd is very different from the music they're usually known for- this is "Lucifer Sam", one of my favorites from the Syd era:Β www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbIMx2β¦
Shortly after leaving the band he'd founded, he recorded two solo albums before disappearing into self-imposed seclusion for the rest of his life. Though he was only really active as a musician for about five years, he's considered to be one of the great visionaries of psychedelic rock. Mysterious guy, but intriguing and very beautiful in his day, haha

(Oh, man, isn't he gorgeous? Yeah, that picture's from 1970, around the time his solo albums came out. So this isn't even at the height of his rock stardom! It's a beautiful photo, I think he looks almost angelic.)

Awwww, thank you so much! Yeah, I was only using black for this picture so I tried to find interesting ways to do shadow/texture. Dot shading is one of my favorite things ever.
Syd's hair was really fun to draw because messy and curly= the best kind of hair
It's based on the photos from this shoot because I thought he looked really pretty, haha.

Dots are super easy, I've found. You just put the dots really close together in areas you want to be darker and gradually space them farther apart as you move to the lighter areas. It's great for when all you have is a pen.
Right? When David Gilmour doesn't wash his hair it's nasty but when Syd doesn't it's cute.

The garden shoot was adorable oh my god- it was actually a little later in the same year, so apparently 1971 was a very cute year for Syd.
