Description “Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.”
-John Lubbock

Summer is officially two weeks away from the time of this posting but, it certainly feels like it is here with us already.

This fox is an origami based on Hideo Komatsu's design.  It is made with a single square sheet of paper, painted before folding.
It was a standing fox at first but, it fell in the water when I tried taking pictures over a stream.   I fished it out and tried to salvage it and in doing so I realized that it might be possible to play with the now very soft paper to do something different.   The white paint got a bit damaged but, mostly survived and the red re-dried without being affected.

It turns out that they say a whole lot of nonsense, apparently.

Thank you!
Yes, in this case it was an accident that proved fruitful.

Thats the great thing about soft hand made paper, so much you can do with it even in a situation like that! I don't know if I've asked yet but what paper and paint do you use for most of your models?

I am sorry for being so late in my reply.

I have been using a plain origami paper for most of my early models and it works rather well, since I paint it.
It is called Yasutomo   www.yasutomo.com/index.php?pag…

Lately, I have been using some Mulberry paper, which is a good and strong paper but, it is a bit harder to work with, from my point of view.

As for paint, I used a lot of cheap no-name acrylics found at places like wal-mart and they actually work well.
I now buy some mid-range artist acrylics called Amsterdam.   www.dickblick.com/products/ams…

I like the feel of it better when folding and the colors are a bit richer.

I hope this helps a bit.

No worries! No rush haha =]

Oh wow, I hardly ever use packaged kami anymore, but I'm glad to see at least someone can make some nice models with it. And I've only used Mulberry a couple of times and I really really like it. Its got a nice balance of strength and thinness compared to Unryu and Lokta.

Yeah it seems the cheap paints are the way to go. If its too good of quality, it makes the paper almost sticky, at least in my experience with painting on Tant.

How do you get all your origami photos so high quality? Do you photoshop the lighting or do you just have a really good camera?

FoldedWilderness In reply to Janjansquirrel [2014-06-11 15:01:17 +0000 UTC]

I have a canon t2i, which is a good camera but, it is definitely considered entry-level for dslr.

I use some photoshop filters to help alter the color a bit but, it's mostly just outside lighting and camera settings that do the work.

Thanks for the nice comment.
