Arwen's Lament

Where now are the grey ships
and the pull of the white gulls call?
Faded are the echoes of elven song
and the stir of magic in the woods.
They passed as shadows on the horizon
like lost spirits into the misty night.
Gone unto the Grey Havens
and on to the undying lands.

What good is life never ending
if it is to be spent utterly alone.
To endure an eternity of grieving
for our love forever lost.
Long nights haunted by the memory
of how I felt wrapped in your arms.
Endless days spent longing
for a touch that will never come.

Why could I not be with you
here at our hopes end?
Better to fight and die at your side
than to simply fade away.
All alone in the coming darkness
like a candle before the storm.
I feel the shadows growing stronger
as the light of the Evenstar fades.

Where now is the sword that was broken
and by the skill of elven hand remade?
What has become of he born to be king,
but who would rather just be a man?
What path has fate chosen for the nine,
heroes of the age or heralds of our doom?
Whose hand is it now that bears the ring,
how strong the heart that holds our fate?

Why must the sun still rise only to reveal
how the beauty of Imladris has withered.
It only serves to haunt my weary mind
for all the happiness and joy that is lost.
As his dark embrace engulfs the lands
the last glimmers of light fade in the night.
For what hope can be left to a world
that has been abandoned by peace.

With dawn comes a new vision
forming from the chill morning mist.
Will it be another phantom of despair
sent to steal another piece of my soul?
There comes a pale horse running
and with it my heartbeat stops.
For it is no vision of despair but of hope
as Shadowfax comes to take me to him.

This is a work simply to show my love and enjoyment of a world and characters created by J.R.R.Tolkien. It in no way represents any scene from his books or from the movies that I also loved. It is from my own imagination and is intended to show the time just before the fall of Sauron.

I have tried to capture the anguish and heartache of Arwen in her loneliness during the darkest of times. With her lover gone off to fight a almost hopeless war, the elves leaving this world and her Father lost in his own war what thoughts did the dark lord send to her mind. It is also for all those who have felt the heartache of waiting for someone they love to come home safely from war and those who never did.

I have borrowed some names and some references from the stories only and any other similarities to the books or the movies are unintended by me. The song was written by me and the image manipulated by me and in no way is to be associated with the books or the movies. I hope you enjoy the song and the picture I made for it and I look forward to your comments good or bad.
