Description (Vanessa and Sebastian don't exist in this one shot. The time frame is set when Lin was researching for Hamilton. Gender neutral reader. I did study about Maria Reynolds, but if I get a fact wrong, please correct me! And please do not try to email Lin's email for this oneshot, I made it up and I do not know Lin's email.)

Lin Manuel Miranda furrowed his brows, taking in information on Alexander Hamilton. But, there was one thing he couldn't wrap his head around. Maria Reynolds' intentions during the affair. He had read that she wasn't doing that intentionally, but with what Alexander Hamilton wrote in The Reynolds Pamphlet, it seemed intentional. He sighed, closing the book he was reading. He soon came to realize he needed to research Maria Reynolds to get a clearer idea about her.

[Y/N] [L/N] knew too much about James and Maria Reynolds. (He/she) wanted to help someone understand the affair wasn't Maria's fault. The affair was disastrous, yes, but Maria wasn't wanting to destroy Hamilton's name. [Y/N] has an article describing how the affair began, and how Maria felt during the affair, which has grown in popularity. People try to disprove the facts that took [Y/N] years to uncover, but (he/she) always had laughed at their attempts. (He/she) had checked the facts with the best of historians.

Lin sighed in frustration, trying to find a decent article on Maria Reynolds. He clicked on almost every article he found interesting, but was met with only how the affair began and ended, not how Maria felt during the affair. There wasn't much information on James Reynolds either. Before giving up, he ran into an article. How the Hamilton-Reynolds affair actually began and how both felt during it by [Y/N] [L/N]. Lin clicked on the article, and began reading.

Alexander Hamilton, the first Treasury Secretary of the United States, had an affair with Maria Reynolds. Since he published The Reynolds Pamphlet, his affair was the most open in comparison to Thomas Jefferson.

"Come on," Lin groaned, "I already know that Hamilton's affair was the most open." Lin scrolled down, continuing to read.

Maria Reynolds was 23 at the time of the affair, while Hamilton was 34. She didn't want to do anything to harm Hamilton's name. With marrying James Reynolds at the age of 15, the relationship between the two was more of a "you do what I want" kind of relationship. James Reynolds had set up the scheme to get money off of Hamilton. Maria had wrote to Hamilton, warning him about the scheme, but Hamilton ignored those letters. Hamilton payed Reynolds $1000 to keep the affair closed. In January 1792, Reynolds wrote to Hamilton, offering to renew the affair.

"Interesting..." Lin mumbled, continuing to read, and soon enough, he reached the end of the article, where contact information became visible.

Lin quickly began emailing. He became frustrated, trying to figure out how to word the email until he finally figured out the email he would finally send.

Hello, (Mr./Miss) [L/N]
My name is Lin Manuel Miranda. I am currently in the process of researching for my musical called Hamilton. I have some questions for you. Was Maria Reynolds claiming to be abused by her husband? I read in your article about the Hamilton-Reynolds affair that the relationship was sort of a "Maria does what James Reynolds wants" kind of thing. My other question is how did Hamilton feel about most of the affair? If you can answer these as soon as possible, that'd be great! Thank you. Here is my contact information, I'll probably need your help once again.

Hours later, [Y/N] read the email, and quickly began to reply to the email.

Hello, Mr. Miranda.
Maria was indeed abused by James Reynolds. As stated in the article, Maria married James Reynolds at the age of 15. I never stated that James Reynolds was likely many years older than her, however. Maria also wrote to Hamilton telling him she wishes she was never born and that she deeply apologized for making him feel upset, as she stated in the letter she wrote to him in 1791, "Oh my God I feel more for you than myself and I wish I had never been born to give you such unhappiness." Hamilton felt extremely upset with the affair, wanting to end it sooner than when he payed James Reynolds in December 1791. But, with being confronted by Monroe, Venable, and Muhlenburg, he published The Reynolds Pamphlet, practically destroying his family name. Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton eventually forgave him for the torrid affair.
I must admit, the musical sounds interesting.
Thank you for emailing, Mr. Miranda.
[Y/N] [L/N]

After years of emailing, Hamilton soon came into existence. Lin quickly emailed [Y/N].

Hello, [Y/N]!
Hamilton is officially here! May you go and see it? I actually would love to meet you.
Lin

[Y/N] emailed back almost immediately.

Hi, Lin!
I'll get a ticket, and honestly, I would love to meet you too. I'll get an afternoon show.
[Y/N]

[Y/N] couldn't believe (he/she) was going to meet the man (he's/she's) been emailing for years.

Now this is a detailed and pleasant fic! It feels nice that you trusted that the emails would do enough and paid mind to make them quite believable. The situation was fascinating enough without rushing to make Lin and the reader meet, thank you for writing this piece!

Don't you mean Jefferson, Madison, and Burr?

Historically, James Monroe was the one who primarily confronted Hamilton about the affair with Maria Reynolds. However, Burr was involved, but did not confront Hamilton about it. After engaging many letters with each other, Hamilton and Monroe almost engaged in a duel, but it was stopped by Burr.

Burr is truly an interesting character.  He stopped Hamilton from dueling James Monroe, then got into a duel himself with Hamilton
He also had to ban snacks from the cabinet floor
and he bought a coconut that was over 40 dollars
I know too many things about this musical *sigh*
