Description In my 2nd in the series of "Unmade Movies", I chose "Godzilla vs the Space Monsters". This was also another idea that incorporated largely in what is now known as "Godzilla vs. Gigan" and, to a lesser extent, "Godzilla vs Megalon".
The original idea was that Godzilla and Angilas would face off against the trio of alien kaiju Ghidorah, Gigan and Megalon. Under the control of an evil brain named "Miko", the aliens would have the upper hand, until Godzilla and Angilas would get an unexpected ally in a stone statue from South America called Majin Tuol, who would come to life and turn the tide of battle.
For this piece, I wanted to show that the alien monsters were indeed a challenge with Godzilla temporarily out, while Angilas and Majin Tuol were in heated situation. The background was a combination of hand drawn landscape with altered clip art, and a photoshopped image of the Godzilla Tower that would also figure in the script.

I think to make it better; have Godzilla, Anguirus, Rodan & Varan fight against Ghidorah, Gigan, Megalon & Mogu.

I'm pretty sure Majin Tuol was a villian in this film. Or maybe that was another unmade movie.Β

Majin Tuol was set to be an Earth Defender and his backstory, purpose and appearance are similar to King Caesar. You could conclude that Majin Tuol is a prototype for King CaesarΒ

You have the best grasp of these Unmade Movies. If its a Showa Era project, it looks like one. Great callback to Godzilla vs Gigan (a movie were Godzilla got F****ED up really badly).

You should do one with the Asuka Fortress, where a rogue element of JSDF plan an overthrow of the government with their Super Robot (more Red Ronin, Combattler V, Mazinger Z, Big O, than Gundam, Macross, and VOTOMS). this was planned during the height of super robot anime in Japan.Β

I am a sucker for the super robot era in the 70s. I have no idea where I would start with a design, unless Jet Jaguar was the intended robot...but who knows....

maybe rework Red Ronin to look more Suitmation and even more nationalistic?

well I only got 1 anyways can u try and tangle Godzilla that combines the design of the 1954 Godzilla & the GMK Godzilla but has the blank white eyes? And Godzilla X Varan, Baragon & Anguirus: Giant Monsters All Out Attack. And that's pretty much all I ask for. But while I want for your answer I'd like to ask a friendly question whats your favorite Godzilla movie? U can tell my favorite is GMK and also the 1954 original, but would love to hear your favorite and why

Fourgreen In reply to AndyBlueEyes [2014-05-27 16:17:15 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. My favorite? That's tricky because I love them all for various reasons, but if I were to select an all-time favorite? I actually really love both Terror of Mechagodzilla and Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster. It's a weird blend of seriousness with goofy Godzilla-the-hero. TOMG is a pretty somber flick for the 70's era, and I like how that contrasts with 1974's Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla which seems bright and a bit more upbeat...as far as an alien invasion goes.
GTTHM has a strange, dream-like vibe to it, and the having Godzilla, Rodan and Mothra join forces to face a greater threat started the charm of Godzilla movies for me. These were no longer merely monsters-on-the loose; they were characters with personalities. I think that was key to Godzilla's success for us as kids.

Oddly enough, I prefer my Godzilla to be more in line with the original '54 or GMK...treated as the atomic bastard he was intended to be. I had a hard time at first processing the new Godzilla film because they set everything up so seriously, and then when Godzilla shows up, he's almost the way he is in the movies I chose as favorites. It just didnt work for me in the same way...maybe it's because there is a disconnect with the CGI model over a man-in-suit? who knows...

Huh I do to; I like the campy & cheesy films like Invasion of the Astro Monster or GVMG, those were my 1st few Godzilla films I saw, but I love a more darker Godzilla. And I can see why you love TOMG and GTTHM those are great ones to the series, TOMG was one the more darker Godzilla films but not on-pair with GMK or 1954 Original as far dark tone goes. Ghidrah was a little serious but more toward fun values at least for me and agree that it did give the kaijus there own unique personalities. I've seen the new Godzilla film and its really good, but not one the best of the series. Its got great action and great effects (though I prefer guys in suit, animatronics, and puppets) but I agree that there's not that much screen time for Godzilla, and main character could have been better but enjoyable non the less.

I agree with everything you say. Although the one series that I feel hasn't held up is the Heisei series. I have such a hard time watching those these days

AndyBlueEyes In reply to Fourgreen [2014-05-27 17:44:41 +0000 UTC]

I for one love the heisei series, theres plenty great ones in the series such as GVKG and GVD,Β but I can understand why you have a hard time watching them because a lot of there plots are complex but for me its in a good way (for the most part). And btw its funny you mention TOMG because I'm actually watching that right now XD

Fourgreen In reply to AndyBlueEyes [2014-05-27 17:54:05 +0000 UTC]

It's not an issue with the plots for the Heisei movies; In fact, I appreciate the continuity. The monster designs, while very cool, are usually large and cumbersome. Destoroyah is a huge beast and I can barely imagine how difficult being in that suit must have been. As a result, majority of these opponents rely on beam weapons to fight each other. The energy weapons are pretty and all, but I also like rough and tumble physical fights, like GMK has.

I also dislike the poorly executed Hollywood homages they fit in almost very one (G vs KG has a Terminator homage, Gvs Mothra has an Indiana Jones homage, G vs Destoroyah has the Aliens one). Aside from thoseΒ  issues, I do like alot of the newer monsters like Biollante, Space Godzilla and Battra. I find Mechagodzilla's Heisei design to be the worst. But thats my taste, I guess. LOL

AndyBlueEyes In reply to Fourgreen [2014-05-27 18:16:41 +0000 UTC]

thats a good point, when watching some the heisei films did pay homage to some of the hollywood films, some of which were unnecessary like GVM with Indiana Jones. I like Mechagodzilla in heisei films, because I feel he was a bigger threat to Godzilla and the Showa films (hell if it wasn't for Rodan Godzilla would have been dead) but in design the showa films is better, the heisei Mechagodzilla face looks weird. Whenever I see that face up-close I always think Mechagodzilla's bored for some reason. I guess there trying to go for a more machine face showing no emotion but it just looks weird. And love a lot of newer kaijus in that era like Battra and Spacegodzilla.

Someone used a picture off the of the back of the Godzilla vs Gigan vhs box lol I don't know if that is true, but that is the first time I saw that famous picture of the prone Godzilla laying down at the feet of Gigan and King Ghidorah.

Again...now that I got that strange little tanget out of me...This looks pretty amazing. Better than I thought it would turn out. Let's start with the background and go to the foreground with this review.

Background looks pretty good. Even though I know it is photo-manipulated images of the G Tower and some trees; it fits. Because of the smoke and the blurred out effect, they do not stand out when pressed together the hand-drawn characters in this illustration. With your drawing style, it really is a the diffination of "happenstance". It shouldn't work, but it does and seems so much like a coincidence.

Now for the fun part...the monster's look great. The highlights on characters like Godzilla Angurius and Toul are fantastic. The warm yellows and oranges from the fires really gives a good dimension to this. And Megalon (a personal favorite monster; despite him being stupid a hell), looks great. There is so much life though happening. Everyone is interacting. It's great!

Honestly, now that I think about it, they should have just made this and "The Return of King Ghidorah" one movie. Godzilla, Anguirus, Rodan, Varan, & Tuol vs. Gigan, Megalon, Mogu, & King Ghidorah. Hell, throw in Jet Jagga too!
