I like Princess Celestia even thou she isn't really a relatable character to me, Luna is in that case (in my opinion).
*hugs Princess Celestia* Don't cry, I never really liked seeing anypony cry. :c

Also:
Indeed. If anything, if there is to be the argument of who is better, it is Celestia. She genuinely cares for her subjects, and treats them like her own children. She runs the country, and tries her hardest to protect her children. The only reason her people fear her, is because her people are like innocent sheep, that think that they themselves must seem so insignificant to her. When she does love them like a mother.

Awww~! Well... I mean... Here is what I put in reply to someone:
All I've seen Luna do, is get in a horrible tizzy-fit, betray her country, her subjects, and her own family. All for the sake of wanting attention. Even when she came back, she didn't take time to study what had changed, or prepare herself.
I'm not saying she's more or less important, though. The sun and moon are equally important, but I think Luna gets more attention that she deserves.

I wouldn't suppose you have any tips for drawing? I'm trying to learn but it's frustrating; I don't think I could ever do something like this.

I'm a bit different when it comes to this. the only guide lines I use are on the head and the rest I just fill in by eye and instinct. I learned proportions from a year and a half of practice. But I think I could throw a few tips in here.
First, soft paper is not good if you want to have a clean looking drawing because the paper absorbs all the graphite and won't erase.
Start with a pencil with hard lead (or draw softly) so mistakes and lines are easily erased.
Don't erase after every mistake. just draw over it (with both lines on the same spot I sometimes find an even better way to draw it)
If you have more than one character it's good to draw those circles and lines to see the space they will take up before going on with the picture.
Specifically for ponies, the proportions of the head and body can only be perfected by practice. My first ponies all had small heads lol
Instinct is powerful. Sometimes just going for a tricky part of the picture by instinct is best. Sometimes if you just let your head draw a certain part without your thinking its wrong, you get it right or even better. (That's how I learned how to draw a flank that was behind a pony)
IMPORTANT: You should always practice by copying someone else's drawing. NOT TRACING but copying. You'll put what you drew in your head and will remember it so you can use it in an original drawing. For example if you have a good body drawn but just can't get the face right, your practice from copying a more advanced picture helped you remember better face positions and contribute that to help.
Really that's all I have for now. I hope it helped in some way and thanks for liking my drawing ^~^

How about knowing where to start the picture. Is that something you pick up over time as well?
For example, this picture of Celestia. Where did you begin; did you draw her mane first to get her basic outline in, or did you draw the face + features first?
I'd say that's the most overwhelming part of drawing for me; knowing where to start.

FoxFacetious In reply to Lorntak [2012-09-06 10:57:54 +0000 UTC]
Ah! For me the best place to start is with a circle for the basic space and direction for the head (the head sort of leads the rest of the body for me)
Then after knowing where the head is facing draw the ear. The ear is powerful in helping you lead the other features in the right direction which is A TON of help with the eyes. To start all my ponies are bald. Draw the the shape of the head along with the snout (The hardest part) once you get the snout the way you like it erase the other lines around it but keep the circle. Now you may add the mane to your bald pony. Start with just the top of the mane so you don't have to erase if the body interferes with the mane. Add a horn if you like (the horn is hard to explain you'll have to go by instinct) Use any guide lines to help with the body that you need.
In a nutshell, start from top to bottom. The legs and tail will be last. If you do it this way you'll have no problems with proportions or placement of the body along with the head. (If the character is standing on something make sure you start the head at the right distance so you have space for the body.
So that's how I start hopefully it works for you too if you try it.
