Description A quick shot I took while the Class 31 locomotive was preparing to run around the last train from North Weald on the 3rd of August, 2019. Four ex. British Railways coaches in the platform - three Mk2s and one Mk1 in BR Blue/Grey.

This station was opened as the terminus of a branch from London via Stratford, owned by the Great Eastern Railway. There were plans to extend the line to Dunmow, but the fact that a cemetery occupied the site to the east of the station prevented that from ever occurring. In 1923 the line was operated by the London and North Eastern Railway  until 1948 when British Railways was formed. This line survived as part of the London Underground Central Line until 1994, when the section beyond Epping was closed. The Epping-Ongar Heritage Railway now occupies the site, with regular services from nearby North Weald Bassett. There are hopes to build a new station at Epping, allowing direct interchange with London Underground services. At the moment a shuttle bus using heritage ex. London vehicles (such as RTs and RMs) operates between Epping LU station and North Weald.
