Thanks, Lauren. I didn't want to do the traditional "red" so I kept the colors soft and the textures subtle. As part of the challenge, we were asked to include the parameters but it's something I like to do anyway.

Thank you very much. I had the Rose Range Lite base but couldn't figure out what I wanted to do with it. When I saw the challenge, it seemed like a good one to share as RRL is one of my favorite coloring algorithms.

RRL is really fun. I learned quite a bit from Janet Parke's class and I think there is a help file for it somewhere. Changing the "color density" and "transfer function" produce big changes and adding transparency to the gradient is cool too.

I played with RRL today, and came up with a real busy orange and white fractal, but I did have fun playing with it. I will post it tomorrow

These are quite restrained compared to some of my other works and I did try to label my layers (even while I worked on it) rather than having Mask 18 on Layer 47 in Group 8.

Usually I post my parameters separately as a .zip file with a thumbnail but then I have to submit two images and it gets so confusing I restrained myself on the background because I knew the file was going to be almost endless. My parameters never look like this when I work on them though, usually I have Mask 22 on Layer 113 in Group 6.

I'm glad you like my hearts, they aren't my favorite shape to work with.

I only started using UF when the Mac version came out last spring so I don't make very complex ones yet. I can use textures, masks and layers and the usual things but I never make anything very complex. I can even use groups.
I'm very pleased I can use it as an earler attempt a few years ago was a failure.

I like this fractal mainly because of the ribbons. They look real.
I also the simple background. Everything is clean and smart.

When you made a shadow like that, do you create a duplicate layer that you turn black and then rotate just a little?

I'll copy your params and have a look at the number of layers etc. Thank you.

The hearts are standard 'orbit traps' but the RRL can be a lot of fun to play with. I created the shadowing here by increasing the Range width and some reverse masking.

Oh dear. I don't know how to do that. I invented my own way of doing shadows.

I duplicate the top layer, turn it black then pan it a bit or zoom in just a little. It makes a sharp shadow. A bit primitive though.

I'll have a look for the RRL and reverse masking. I need to know how things work so I'll be trying to work it out.
I need to work out how to make soft edges. I can sometimes do it by softening the edge of the black part of the mask but it's not possible every time.
