This was the finale of one of of the best chase days from the 2020 season. An absolute beast of a storm started near Devil's Tower in Wyoming and drifted straight over the Black Hills and towards Rapid City. This storm was responsible for a 20-minute EF2 tornado that tracked over the northern Black Hills, among a few others. We fell behind the storm just as it started to produce thanks to a wrong-turn on a dirt road on the western slope of the Black Hills. We were blasted with RFD and saw trees snap around us as the tornado passed a mile or two to the northeast. Had we been on our intended path, we may have actually had a visual of the tornado. Chasing in the hills is hard and we're happy to have seen a great storm without being on the receiving end of any damage! This view of lightning-lit towers over a field of hay bales was where we finally parted ways with the storm after sunset east of Rapid City.
