Amboseli National Park

His Majesty the Kilimanjaro

Kilimanjaro, formerly Kaiser-Wilhelm-Spitze, is an inactive stratovolcano in north-eastern Tanzania. Kilimanjaro is the tallest free-standing mountain rise in the world, rising 4600 metres (15,000 ft) from its base, and includes the highest peak in Africa at 5,895 metres (19,340 ft), providing a dramatic view from the surrounding plains.

It is unknown where the name Kilimanjaro comes from, but a number of theories exist. Many of these theories assume that Kilimanjaro breaks up into Kilima (Swahili for "hill, little mountain") and Njaro, whose supposed origin varies according to the theoryβ€”for some it's an ancient Swahili word for white or for shining, while for others it has non-Swahili origin, e.g. Kichagga jaro meaning caravan. The problem with all these theories is that they can't explain why the diminutive kilima is used instead of the proper word for mountain, mlima. A different approach is to assume that it comes from Kichagga kilemanjaare or kilemajyaro meaning "which defeats the bird/leopard/caravan". However this theory can't explain the fact that the name Kilimanjaro was not used in Kichagga until recently.

Wauw...makes me wanna go...your pics make me daydream...
I'm still hesitating: Kenya or South Africa. I'm afraid Kenya is much more for tourists...(one day there's a visit to a special meat restaurant. Come on, it's not like I never ate meat before and I suppose we get meat where our camp is.)But the Krugher parc seems like it's always the same... I don't know what to do, and help would be appreciated...
But I'm sure I can't complain, cause at least I'll go!
Thanks

Thank you.
I've never been in South Africa, but I think tourism is a great resource for both for Kenya and South Africa, so both of them are well organized. People that see both told me that the wildlife in the Kenya's parks are richer. I think that just the views of Kilimanjaro and the flamingoes in Nakuru deserver a journey to kenya.

Good journey!

Thanks a lot for giving a honest answer, and so soon! If I go to Kenya (and I think I will!), the Kilimanjaro and Nakuru are certainly on my to-do list...
You've been a great help. Thank you!
(And your photo's are really lovely (specially those of Africa ! )
