Description Baptizing all in a river of doctrine,
And calling them to be faithful to the One,

The prose he espouses is easy on the tongue
So much so that empty ignorance seems profound.

But he is more than a One; more, yes.
He is an all, a black dove that morphs into stormy flocks.

Pouring into both proverbial and provincial waters
The lead of deceit and the mercury of spite.

And I ask you, my unexpecting ears, I ask sincerely:
Why is it suspect to be a refugee, an immigrant, an Other?

Why are humans divided by imaginary fears? And why?
Why are the poor such firm believers despite being so numerous?

And why are the numerous poor so weak? It is so
Because the propagandist, a soldier of our misfortunes,

Divides all, and bivouacs us into battlefields. So,
Like Joan of Arc’s heavenly sword, a purified weapon,

We are manufactured from the steel of spiritual industry,
And reborn in the waters of impossible Babylons,

Baptized in a river of even-handed ignominy,
And called to be renewed by our faith to the One.

Despite the religious allegory, I can see what motivated the poem here. As always, your topical poetry is timeless.

I got a feeling some of V's monologues from V from Vendetta in this poem. Well done!

I've only seen that movie once. I'm a huge Natalie Portman fan, and I also like John Hurt.
It was a fun movie. I was not thinking of it when I wrote the poem. Very interesting observation though. Β

Interesting poem, I'm not going to claim I understood the entire meaning of it. I found it fascaniating and from my interpretation It seams you are criticising religion specifically Christianity and claiming it a cause of weakness and discourse among the impoverished. I would like to play a bit of a devils advocate in order to bring up parts of a different perspective. I would argue that the goal of religion is to unite groups of people and bound them to a community kind of like a government. Religion is but another tool to be used by humanity. How that tool is used be it well or poorly just like government is up to us its follower's. Now in defence for Christianity. The most widespread ideas are often the first of there kind. Christianity is not the first religion ever nor is it without flaws but it is the first to be printed and widely distributed via a book. That does not make it the best merely the most accessible at the time. Which for most was viewed as better then the alternative. I believe it up to us to determine what we choose to build our community upon and to ensure it something worthwhile.

Our intentions to present a particular meaning in a poem or work of art
are often very different from the interpretations of readers and viewers.
Everyone, however, is entitled to their interpretation.

I don't intend to disparage Christianity whatsoever. Christianity was a great uniting force in European history. Β

Exactly!!! You nailed it here. I personally do follow Jesus, but other than being more sympathetic to Catholicism than anywhere else, I don't go to church. And I don't preach. And I detest American Christianity, because it IS this poem. Well done!!

Thank you very much. I'm glad you appreciate.Β
I certainly had no intention of deriding the Christian religion.Β
I think everyone should be respected in their own choices concerning faith.Β

I do agree with you there. I would say it maybe isn't the core elements of Christianity that is a problem, because I believe in those. It's the kind of toxic "Christianity" practiced by politicians and televangelists that arouses my ire. The political takeover of American Christianity these last 40 years or so is what I am so against. Hucksters and shysters are not any less so if you slap religious labels on them. I think there are many sincere people being led astray by people like that, and certainly our politicians have no one's best interests in mind other than their own. I think this is the concept you captured brilliantly.
