Here it is, my first shot with my new macro lens. I have to say that I'm really enjoying this photo...A cactus in our living room with several waterdrops.
The big main waterdrop is caught between the spikes of the cactus, which are preventing its escape to the brighter parts...
Edit: I erased two red lines which weren't cactus spikes. Thanks to ~Choke57 for helping me deciding if I should go for them or not.

So gorgeous! I found it hard seeing what it was before I read. It looks like hair. My first thought was "Has he wetted his dog?". Well, I said it was gorgeous, and it is!

Speaking about light, I'll move over to background (No sense, eh), I don't get how people get the sort of plain coloured backgrounds. Is it because the background gets so blurred?

Yes, indeed. The blurred background here would be a red house standing 15 metres from the cactus, but with the rather low DOFs I'm using, you're seeing nothing of it.

Yes, the spikes look a bit like hair and, I have to say, the spikes I took the photo from were very soft and thin, so a similarity is there.

I used a Sigma EX 105mm F2,8 1:1 lens with a Nikon D50 body, plus some editing in Photoshop.
