Thank you so much for your kind words, Bekah!
I just made a short status update, that's why it also isn't visible on my page anymore. I'm really glad you like it, and thanks a lot for subscribing! I had a look at your channel, I'll watch your video for sure! The first sight looked very interesting, but at the moment I'm not able to watch the whole because in my head is total chaos (that's why it coud be my reply is grammatical nonesense XD). I'll do it tomorrow!
The measurement is about 27.5x41cm / 10.8x16.1inch. This was planned to do in ink from the beginning, coffee will be another project. I actually wanted do illustrate Durin, but maybe it will be something else....still thinking about it. At the moment I have hardly time for drawing and painting and I'm actually trying to finish my 'older' drawings until summer before starting a new project. But I hope to get time for the coffee thing in the summer holidays.

'My Mindset' is a personal project so it means a lot when people take the time to view it all and share their thoughts. Thank you. I know its not a perfect piece but I think its the best I could do at that time. I'm glad you like the lighting! I pulled an all-nighter to film the candlelight scene, it was a cool learning experience.
Have you ever listened to The Hobbit's audio book? I wonder if the narrator ever had trouble reading all the hobbit's name all at once. XD
I'm cheering for you and sending wishes of success your way! You can do it!
And you know. . . perhaps the time taken to complete a project allows you to revisit just why you want to complete the piece. You seem like you put a lot of thought into your works of art, perhaps this chance to revisit these older projects gives you a chance to complete them with a greater skill level than you had beforehand. For me if I re-edited 'My Mindset' right now, it would be done better with parts cut up tighter and the visuals even clearer. And even if this isn't the case you can always use my mom's favorite excuse from Toy Story 2,
"You Can't Rush Art!"

I bet it was a good experience! When I look at my older drawings, I'm always thinking 'Oh, I was so proud of that one', and although it is sometimes very strange looking at it again, I still am, just because of the progress I made and what other ideas I have about it now. This is how it always goes. It is also the same with those unfinished, older projects. I always (okay, not always, but mostly) need a lot of time for drawings or paintings, not only in the execution, but also in thinking about the idea. When I look at the old stuff, I wouldn't take the same paper and would work on it, but I would take the idea and develop it further. Actually, I still have a scene in Dale I wanted to illustrate in watercolour, the sketch lies still in my pile. This will be a project I want to restart the next time XD
Are you still doing little films? I just saw 'My Mindset' was uploaded 2y ago.
As for the audio book, no, I never listened to it! I just read the book in German (three-times, I guess) and in English (once or twice, I'm not quite sure), but I imagine the narrator getting confused with all the names at the moment (Ah, my imaginations...) Just thinking about the scene, when all the dwarves get captured by the spiders and Bilbo is left alone in Mirkwood, shouting all their names. (I once read this scene aloud in school, I kinda still know it by heart).
And thanks for the Toy Story scene, it just totally matches!

You know, I always wonder when conversations get this long if I should just reply in a direct message rather than continue to build on this page. I hope you don't mind.
And yes, I can relate when looking at older, finished, projects in a fond way. It's interesting how you transfer an old, unfinished, project to new paper in order to 'develop it further'. I've never done that, probably because the majority of my artwork is not as original as yours is. Rather I work solely with reference art lately. I'm interested in this scene of Dale that you mention! I'll keep my eyes open whenever that one shows up.
As for films, sort of. My grandmother is celebrating her 90th birthday this year. We are throwing a rather large party for her and I have gathered a ton of footage from home videos (back when her kids were just born)) and want to edit a 'Happy birthday' video for her. I'm editing it now, over the weekend actually. It's nowhere near done and I don't know if it'll make its way to Youtube but it holds a special place in my heart. My grandmother and I are close.
Wow! You know, there are times I forget you know German. That's your first language, right? I've always been fascinated with the idea of being fluent in another language. My favorite poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, knew at least eight different languages and says that the German language is the most beautiful. I found that interesting.
You aren't missing much, honestly. Despite listening to the audio book at least 4 times, I find it monotonous. My family would usually listen to it when we would go on long car rides. But the narrator is a deep voiced man who sings the songs with the exact same tone each time and every character is the same voice. It gets kinda boring. On the positive side it helped the kids fall asleep on those long car rides!
Yep, you're welcome.

Oh, no worries! (I actually forgot this is still under the picture - but no problem! )
I don't know when I'll find time for Dale, but it's still waiting - it will follow somewhen!
But really nice! My brother also films a lot and edit his videos, mostly of our travels and beside the short video, he always making a 'family video' which is quite more personal and longer, and it's just for us. I think such personal projects are too precious for YouTube! I hope you'll get the video ready till her birthday, I'm sure it is a wonderful and personal present!
Yeah, German is my mother tongue, I'm learning English and French in school (though my French is...eh...not that good. I can read it and write it with a translator by my side, but that's all). But it's really interesting! Most people just say 'German is too difficult and harsh' or 'it sounds like someone is, well, heaving' or so. XD I wouldn't say that, but when I watched some guys trying to speak german, they were already half screaming XD But I guess pronouncing a foreign language strangely is totally normal (I don't want to see reactions to my English ) But it's really a nice thing when you can say you're speaking more than one language.
Haha, yeah, that's why I can't listen to audiobooks! Of course there are good ones, but after a time my concentration just drifts away... When somebody would ask me later what the book was about, I just could tell the half of important things, I guess.

Hey there!
Impressing artwork in terms of concept! Thorin standing in between all the gold, people fighting because of the gold, the dragon swimming in the coins as if even though dead, he'S still not defeated ... it's great and the title fits really well. Even though you aimed for a comic style there are lots of cool details in there, for example the scale mail and the fur on his coat. The only thing that bothers me a little bit is his eye ... is it open or closed? Otherwise, the facial expression is pure gold! (no pun intended, of course )
The blood on the Arkenstone is a cool idea, it only adds to the meaning behind this image ... people killing each other because of greed. The symbolism is strong here, but I have a problem with the moon or sun in the background. First of all, I'm not sure what it means, and then it's drawn in a very minimalistic fashion, it's "just black", if you know what I mean. It looks a bit out of place, and the lack of a sky (like clouds or sth in the background) only makes it look like it's floating in a big nothingness. I think, you could go one of two ways: Either just leave the background blank and get rid of the moon, or add some clouds, and maybe even contures of the lonely mountain in the background.
Hope, this helps!

Hey, thanks a lot for your feedback!
The funny thing is, that most guys ask if his eyes are open or closed. I intended to draw an open eye, but empty, like an eye of a statue, blind, so closed at the same time...I don't no if this makes sense to you what I'm talking about!
The eclipse was meant as a symbol of the overshadowing situation. But I have to admit, I also think it kinda seems out of place. I wanted to let it blank in the beginning, but it looked really empty then, and after seesaw I added it. The stupid thing with ink is, that you have actually no possibility to reverse it... But I have the recording, so I still know how it once looked like.
Thanks again!

I dont think a "statue-eye" would work, because the blood dripping from his hands destroys the impression of a statue ... I know it's hard to draw with ink, but I'd either go for a closed eye and a grim look on his face to imply internal struggle, or I'd go with an open eye, but with a stare like he was looking at something but not actually seeing.
As an advice: Don't be afraid to leave parts of your image blank. They can be rest spots for the eyes when the viewer is tired of too many details and the eye needs space that isn't as "cluttered". Empty space around your characters or in the corners is fine, because it doesn't draw your attention away from the actual focus of the picture.

Hello from the
So it appears we have in your hands a nice fan art of the Hobbit trilogy, it is an interesting choice to go for a black and white scheme, it would be hard to use colors and give the same impact that this particular art gives, Thorin (I hope this is the right name) holding the stone that is super important for his kingdom, but the stone pretty much bleeding on his hand is a clear sign that something is very wrong, for his eyes, I can’t really say if they are closed or simple complete white, in one he is pretty much bathing on his own thoughts and possible greed, on other he is so dominated by the “sickness” that his eyes now are devoid of emotions other than hate and greed, the details on his armor are great, the white silhouettes of six warrior ready for a conflict is good and there isn’t much to comment, for the floor of coins it makes sense that they were simple drawing with just a few groups of circles here and there, it is ridiculous to try and draw every single coin, what matters are the effects that allow the floor to look like a floor of coins, and you did a good job, I especially enjoy the dragon’s tail that is partially showing, my only problem is that the stone Thorin is holding looks like just another rock in this style, or a dragon egg, it would be interesting to try to add small light lines to indicate the importance of the stone, but this is my only problem, (and the fact that I can’t see if his eyes are open and close but it works anyway), this art is fantastic.

Awesome painting! I love the layers to this, the dragon emerging her and there from the gold, the fighting, Thorin standing there, his cape cloaking the frame. Looks awesome! So very well done! <3

Very interesting use of negative space and scale. I think the theme of lust-- for power and greed, embodied by precious objects-- is a running theme through Tolkien's works and make them just so great. The Arkenstone is a perfect example of that: vengeance and greed turning good people toward strife.
