I am trying to do something similar to this in blender for my friends book and I am thinking about making a short animation, already have the skeleton modeled and am working on the robe and scythe now

Love this pic, thing that makes me like it more is the skull, looks realistic and really stands out from the other pics, even the robe where its a bit open, you can see a bit of its skeleton, i must say, awesome work indeed!

The funny thing is that before being an omen of death Crows were the messenger of the gods.The legend says that in olden times the Crow was a colorful bird even more so than parrots.Athena,the greek goddess of wisom,even took it as her messenger.But the crow told one of her secrets, to punish him Athena turned his beatiful colored feathers that made his pride into the pitch Black coat we know today.Since then Owls replaced crows as the symbol of wisdom.He bacame an omen of death.

Very nice, I know criticism is a good thing sometimes, but some of these people are down right rotten. Truly they have no room to talk because some of them aren't even artists, just criticism professionals. You deserve praise for this!

Hehe, read a lot of Pratchetts books, so inspired by those a little also.

The hands are bit small and the skull is humongous. It makes the reaper look a bit silly instead of mencing. The blade of the scythe looks a little one dimentional, for the angle that it is being held, you'd expect to see it from an angle, not straight on.
Did you mean for the figure to be that disproportionate? It just seems you haven't thought through your proportions properly.
All forgivible faults for the atmosphere and a detail though. Hope you don't go crazy over the positive critisim, like every other overly sensitive 'artist' here.

The artwork I´m using the character in won´t have anything visible under the hood, glowing eyes maybe, but pretty much just darkness. For this wallpaper the only more rushed part was the skull & the ribs, they were last minute additions for this wallpaper-edition. And pretty much the only thing that received criticism. Shouldn´t rush things I suppose. But still, I don´t mind the critique, it always helps. And in the actual artwork I´m going to use the reaper in, the hands look pretty much ok, when there is no skull visible. Corrects the proportions somewhat.

Wow. Just wow. I love the whole mood of it. Also, his... eyes, I suppose, are amazing. There is definite stoicism, but also I see compassion, which all the more adds to the idea of the reaper and his representation. Beautifully done!!!
