Description Still working on the website , and going through a lot of old images . Found this shot I took of the Matilda Bay boat house some time last year . Finally got around to stitching it up and editing it . Was originally a 10 image stitch , have cropped it down to two different 3:1 ratio images but cant decided on which version I prefer , Im leaning towards the off center composition as I all ready have a few images of the Boat house with the composition in the middle .

The other image can be viewed here . [link]

Taken with Canon 5D MKII , Canon 24-70m L Lens , Lee soft Grad .9ND .

In my opinion it is much superior version.
Main subject in center of composition overpowers bright sun to the right and overall visual impression improves dramatically.

I like this version better. The other has a slight, really small distraction on the right, near the cluster of trees.

Another stunner Kirk. How do you like the Canon 24-70m L on the 5D2? I've heard a lot of people ripping at it, saying it's crap...

Furiousxr In reply to DrewHopper [2010-06-25 03:18:23 +0000 UTC]

Nar the 24-70 is great versitial lens , pretty much my work horse I do most my shots with . The 24-105 which comes with the 5DMKII lens package isnt that great mabye it was that lens they were talking about ?
Yeah the 24-70 is nice and sharp , nice color the only sharper lens would be a prime lens from canon either a 50mm F1.2 or 85mm F1.2 .
Would deffinatly recommend it if your getting a 5DMKII a lot better then the 17-40mm lens .

the next lens i want is the 16-35mm and the F1.2 85mm lens but going to have to save for a bit just spent all my cash on a new PC tower .

Yeah, my bad it is the 24-105 I've read bad reviews about. I'm just getting the 5D2 body only, and going to buy the glass I need. Wide angle definitely and wouldn't mind the 85mm myself... 50mm on ff wouldn't be much reach.

Furiousxr In reply to DrewHopper [2010-06-27 04:53:55 +0000 UTC]

yeah the 24-105 isnt a very good lens then they try and flog it off with the 5DMKII kit lol
yeah would love the 85mm its so sharp , the 50mm F1.2 is great for panos probally one of the sharpest lens canon got but pricey as well .

Yeah, you do most your pano's at 50mm hey. I want to get up to the Gold Coast and try some panos of the city. Usually my 10mm is wide enough to do it in one though, I'm lazy you see

its a difficult decision, even for me. both images have their own mood, mainly due to the sky. at this point, i also can't decide, but i noticed that i don't like the house at the horizon of the off center edition.

Colours are awesome tho!

Not having seen many of these down the middle comps...I think I prefer this one over the off center. The off center seems to me to have too much space on the right. Just my humble opinion of course. And that doesnt mean I don't think both are cracking images...cause they are! Outstanding
