I've been wanting to do something like these for a bit.
Then I talked to and this is what came of it.
So have some Crystal Pones.
It's actually kinda my headcanon for these designs that Amethyst's wings are a bit too small to fly. It's part of the whole 'not knowing how big she's actually supposed to be' defect from the kindergarten.

I LOVE these designs! I’ve seen (and adored) lots of pony Steven art...but this one is something else! Frankly, I’d love a part two with more characters...like we need a family portrait of Greg, Rose and Steven in this style...
Just one question: would the Diamonds be alicorns given their power and ruler status?

Hmmm. I'm not fully caught up so I'd need to watch the newer episodes before I could say all the diamonds would be alicorns. Mostly I based their types on the aspects of the characters themselves. Pearl uses a lot of holograms/summoning and Lapis summons her wings so they became unicorns, etc.

I saw the Speedpaint for this and im just curious to know why you changed the way you shaded Garnet's hooves. You made them super detailed and they looked really pretty, then you changed it to make it more simple. Why did you do that?

Because everything else was flatshaded and it looked a little out of place.
Like, I liked it as well but it clashed with the rest of the picture(s). If I did a more detailed picture in the future I'll definitely do her hooves like that again, but for the sake of keeping in style I had to settle, hehe.

Why would I?
When I drew these Peridot didn't have her metal powers and only used mechanical enhancements to do thing. Pearl's only a unicorn because of her frequent use of holograms, projections, and summoning her weapon.

I like how each one has slight differences in the basic pony design to set them even further apart (Lapis/Pearl's longer leg fur, different markings in their coats, etc.). Also I love Garnet's gem hooves!
