This is quite possibly the most incredible use of such a primary colour scheme i've ever seen! Fantastic stuff... it's the kind of image that makes me all giddy and excitable just from looking at the intense red exploding against the violet blue of Medusa's skin. And the little touch of green in the snakes.. genius! I wouldn't ever have thought these colour could combine so saturated and still make a classy picture. Awesome, awesome work.

I think that pic was made for a D&D adventure on Dungeon Magazine, right? The D&D medusa is a scaly creature with a hideous face, but a lot of artists simply make them as nice woman with snakeshairβ¦

Even if I love your art, I must say that is quite bothering when a text is doing all to get an image in your mind, and then you see a pic that shows a different thing.
Even so, sometimes the pic is MUCH better and cool than the description! I like this medusa design much more than the one in the Monster Manual

I know what you mean. It can be disappointing when the art of a book cover, for instance, doesn't have anything to do with the actual book. Though in the artist's defense, oftentimes (in fact, the vast majority of the time) they aren't given a whole lot of choice over what sort of image they are supposed to do. And sometimes? Sometimes the description is just damn silly. Sometimes there's nothing you can do to make a cool monster out of a goofy idea.
It's been years, but as I recall the adventure this illustration was for had a medusa that was supposed to be a looker. I plead innocent!

Compliments are powerful weapons, man. Check out Mark Zug's work! He sprinkles little microdots of compliments all over the place. It's one of the things that makes his work so yummy.

I agree with =dunwich7 about the pose. I also like that one snake that's longer than all the rest--usually depictions of Medusa tend to render the snakes more or less symmetrically or evenly around her head, but yours gives the snakes more animation.
I also agree with ~frozen-peas about the (solar?) stone design in the background.
