My B1 Representation class (Arch 3501) had their first project due the other week.

The idea was to make a cube 6000 mm by 6000 mm in 1:20 showing movement of some sort. It had a few minimum requirements like 1 cube any size, 2 planes greater then 9 feet, had to show max height and space of overal 6000x6000 mm distance. Also had to show our height at various levels like standing, sitting, etc etc, and finally it had to be ABSTRACT.

So I had the idea of a "forest of pillars", each pillar is a tree abstracted down. Each pillar is showing one of my heights. Anyways, the second part of the project was to make 5 "plates" or charts containing 1 picture, some sketches and as few words as possible to convey what we were trying to accomplish at this stage of the design. So here is the text of the first plate.

Technical info: Studio backdrop is a class make shift thing using black matting and our parallel ruler boxes. LOL Lighting was from 2 drafting lamps. I took the pictures using a Canon A520 digital camera. Settings were just like on Landscape or auto or something. Changed from colour to black & white using photoshop cs.

Abstract: Still Movement
Concept: I wanted to have a static layer in which all movement came out of.
Concrete: I created an infinity pool of moving water, which would seem like a sheet glass, giving the individual the idea of “walking on water.” If the individual could not reach path from steps, they would have to disturb the water.

Note: that I am in the process of making plexiglass cubes full of water matching the height of the path and the first front step. They kept on falling apart on me but critique time isn't till this week so I still have some time to get them done. They weren't essential for the plates.
