I was at Fan Expo Vancouver this passed weekend and had a chance to get my picture with Brent Spiner!!
I also managed to get his autograph, in which thankfully the lineup was short and I had time to talk to him!! I started babbling about how much I love Star Trek and how Data was my favourite character on TNG. I managed to catch myself enough to tell him I watched and enjoyed his webseries "Fresh Hell" and asked if he was going to continue it. Unfortunately, he replied that it's expensive to make, so he reached out and made some calls to see if anyone would be willing to finance it, but but he never heard back from them. He then joked about how often that happens in Hollywood, and asked me where I wanted him to sign his name on my TNG book. I asked him if he would sign the front page and he stared blankly me at me and said "No, I'm sorry, I can't." Of course he was joking, and he smiled and asked for my name. I was still really nervous and excited and simply said "It's Cassandra." but quickly realized there are different ways of spelling it, so I started telling him "C-A-S-S-A-" but I looked into his eyes (something I don't do very often) and got REALLY nervous and paused for a second, and Brent began asking about the end of my name "N-D-R-A?" at the exact same time I tried to say it. I was honestly really embarrassed and screaming internally, but if Brent noticed the awkwardness he didn't say anything and signed my book. After he had finished signing the book he looked at it and said "You know what Cassandra? You're really lucky. I think I'm just going to keep this." and jokingly moved the book to his side like he going to put it in his bag. He laughed and handed me my book and I got to fistbump him!!
The photos on the other hand were done very fast which made me even more nervous than I normally would have been, so when it was my turn I walked up to Brent Spiner and as he reached to put his arm around me I put mine around him. After the photo I managed a "Thank you!" and I think I heard a "You're welcome!"
I was so, so nervous and I look terribly awkward with my arm tensed up BUT I GOT TO TOUCH LIEUTENANT COMMANDER DATA!!!!
