Description I never liked Superman. You can't identify with a man that's supposed to be perfect in every way. His stories are typically about him struggling to be perfect, but ultimately staying perfect, or not being able to save absolutely everyone instead of almost everyone. Oh, boo hoo. Strangely enough, I like Shazam for some reason. Maybe it's because he beats up Superman. Anyway, /co/ wanted to know why Batman had better movies. I thought the answer was obvious, so I drew it.

What Superman haters fail to realize is you aren't necessarily supposed to like Superman because of all his powers. You are supposed to like Superman because it is stupidly obvious that he is powerful enough he could conquer or destroy Earth and countless other planets scattered throughout reality, ruling like a God, taking whatever he could possibly want with practically no one being able to stop him(AKA Darkseid, Brainiac) yet the only thing he actually wantsΒ to use his powers for is to save and protect those that cannot save or protect themselves.

Superman's struggle is his desire to fit in with the rest of Humanity and live a simple life, while feeling morally obligated to share his power for the benefit of mankind.
Superman's fear, which sub-consciously limits his own abilities, is based on the knowledge if he ever let out too much power or failed to properly control it the collateral damage would be apocalyptic.
Bruce Wayne is the man that becomes Batman, putting on the mask to protect the identity of his normal life. He could hang up his mask and live as Bruce Wayne with little more than moral problems.
Kal-El is the man that becomes Clark Kent, putting on the mask to protect his Superman identity in order to haveΒ a normal life. If Kal hangs up his mask then he is Superman, while if someone were to ever actually try to harm Clark it would quickly become apparent he was Superman or at least not Human.

I just don't understand the hate for Superman. To me, he's more relatable and interesting than Batman. (Yeah, I went there.) Oddly enough, Smallville helped me like Superman more. Of course, Superman: Birthright and All Star Superman were what really made me appreciate and respect Superman. If you claim you don't like Superman and haven't read those, your opinion on Superman is invalid. My favorite thing to do is hear a Spider-Man fan (this is also coming from a huge spidey fan) hate on Superman. My response is always: static.comicvine.com/uploads/o…

while I show you why Clark Kent is just an adult mature Peter Parker. I owned this one guy so hard, he ran out of points and just conceded to it. there are the people who will tell you he's too overpowered which makes him flawless and unrelatable. I feel like these are the people that don't know Superman and don't read the comics or who don't know Clark Kent. To me the character is more Clark Kent than Superman. If people want to say Batman is the real person Bruce is the mask; I'd say it's safe to say Kent is the real person and Superman is the mask. At his core he is just a guy who is struggling to be normal and fit in, but he happens to have these amazing Super Powers that don't let him. He can't just be normal because he has a responsibility to the people he protects...he's just like Spiderman. You know, the guy that everyone says is the most relatable character in comics. He's not always down on his luck like Parker but he's just as human. Superman is who Spiderman wants to be when he grows up and gets his shit together. I'm not saying it's bad for you to have an opinion and dislike superman. I'm just saying your reasons for doing so are a little off. Being good isn't the same thing as being perfect. But it's still good. Just because some people don't know superman doesn't mean there isn't a him to know.

you know you could always write a scary mpreg story for superman and have batman drug him up and rape him causing him to become pregnant and never knowing until like two months down the road when he is forced to deliver an egg or find out hes preggers with twins and is losing his powers except flight and he delivers them like a woman and and then several years later have batman pull superman into a room and go bwahahahahaa im the father of your children and i raped you cuz you pissed me off...... now that would be funny and then superman ultimately cries and and realizes that batman finally defeated superman..... just a suggestion.

It's true though that Batman is truly loved by the youth of today, but I do love Clark too. To bring up another point I too love Captain Marvel, but it's for his Power within this Child ya know? He gets to be a big grown up hero in a world that has some of the most powerful Heroes in all of comics, Television, and Movies, and he can go toe to toe with lots of them. I just love DC, not ALL of it, but most of it.

Your argument is damaged.

His issues don't come from his character flaws. Superman's issue is that he's godlike in strength. He's so strong, that every day is a constant struggle to ensure that he doesn't accidentally crush someone's hand into jelly because he squeezed too much, or destroy a city block because he landed too hard. To walk amongst beings that he could squish like ants, everything around him being so fragile that it may as well be glass. It's a challenge. He's "living in a world made of cardboard" all the time. The amount of force one would use to snap a toothpick in half, is a bit more than the amount of force it takes for Superman to open a tightly sealed jar. He holds back constantly. This is a struggle opposite to what Batman faces. Batman puts all his efforts into becoming all he can be, while Superman puts all his efforts into holding back all he can be for the safety of those he cares about. He's so worried about this, that he once gave a rock of Kryptoite to Batman to be used against him if there were ever a time when he would need to be stopped. Get it? He'd rather be dead than let anyone die for a misuse of his power. There was recently a story where Superman was touring across the states. He at one point found himself in a park, and everyone was really nervous. When asked why, a woman replied "If someone came into a park with a loaded gun, you can understand we'd be nervous right? Well.. you're like a loaded gun." Later on, Superman, came upon a mother and child who were being abused by the father. When Superman confronted the father you know what he did?.. he turned him into the police, gave the kid an assuring pep talk and told him to call him whenever he felt like it (he also implied there would be a serious ass whupping in store for the dad if he ever came back around). THAT takes control. He could have easily ripped the dad in half, but because he knew not to abuse his power, he did the more virtuous and law abiding thing.

Superman is awesome. If you want the real reason why Batman has better movies, it's because he's more assessable to people who don't want to bother to learn about other characters -> :iconGrannadene:

Phantasim, while i agree with your passion for supes, this generation grew up with batman. Superman had his day back when more in a generation was dreaming about the stars. Since then he has become, yes a disconnected character, but still popular in his own standard.
Batman has always played the james bond angle as far as gadgets and mortality were concerned. He's more exciting initially as a character because of his setting. People can always respect supes for his ideals and the way he stands on his feet, but the entertainment value has been less than exciting for a long time now.
The reboot changed it up however, he is more like the adventurous and rashly vulnerable superman of his beginning days.

Don't bash others simply because they don't agree with you on your hero man. It's juvenile, we can have debates in mature in respectable fashions. While I can feel ya on your dissapointment that supes doesnt get much understanding these days. Philosophy and morality are only parts of life, which we know if we want to share that with or look into we have the written character superman to turn to, with his own spin of action and adventure.

The new movie will be out soon so we will see how a vast audience will respond to his character now. Seeing as how his previously best known pieces were all dated to begin with.

That's all I have to say. If you want to represent your hero, you cant do that by calling someone a neaderthal for disagreeing with you or even for not understanding what you were getting at. Clearly he was just making a funny joke, which we are all entitled to making bad and good ones.

Peace dude

Once again, you're foolish to assume things. I love Batman far more than I do Superman. He is most likely my favorite comic book character of all, matched only by Marvel's Spider-Man. I could tell you almost anything about him and his mythology, I would go to great lengths do defend him and even say that he may in fact be THE BEST comic book character ever made.
What my argument was, is that it's unfair to treat other superheroes as less interesting because they are not the same as Batman. I was simply trying to point out the things that make Superman interesting in a different way from Batman. Batman's struggles aren't the same as Superman's struggles, but this is what makes them such a perfect team (when they team up). I simply didn't like how the artist was implying that Superman had no interesting qualities, and I wanted to defend him.

Furthermore, Superman hasn't really "had his day" he's still relevant just not in terms of mass media. Superman is still the classic standard of what a Superhero is, and if you were to ask someone on the street to make a list of superheroes on the spot, you can bet your bottom dollar that Supes would be early on in the listing. To think that something like dreaming about the stars is naive and passe, is a heartbreaking sentiment.

I'm not a fan of the New 52 (if that is the reboot you're talking about) I know that the intention was to attract a new audience, but I think that DC went about it in the wrong way. To me it feels like they dumbed everything down a bit in order to appeal to the more fickle audiences. This is another matter entirely, however and I don't want to sidetrack from my main point.

I think that Superman's new film (set for release next summer) has the potential to make him relevant again. As evidence, I will refer you to, Marvel's Captain America. Many people were unsure if Cap could retain the interest of modern audiences, and though his solo film in 2011 didn't do the best, his role in the Avengers film has caused his popularity to skyrocket. This has made him an A list super hero in people's eyes once more just like Iron Man's '08 movie did.

There is still hope for the Man of Steel, and hope is what he's all about.

You did come off a bit harsh.

Opinions aside, we can all agree that supes is the most well known superhero out there. It can seem unfair at times but people will and should be free to disagree. It was not my intent to to disregard your arguments. I was merely stepping in because it came off really aggressive. Thats all.
