Description Wow... It has been a hot minute since I've posted here... *ignores chants of 2014 in the distance* Anyway, I'm back with this piece now! It's really interesting to look back and see how my art style and abilities have changed throughout my life.

This was a piece I doodled in one of my music classes last semester. I honestly never thought I would be back here, because part of the reason I left for so long was because I never felt totally confident in my artistic abilities. I relied heavily on bases, and never really did any of my own drawing. When I did go back to the paper, I always had to have a reference to draw a full figure, and even then I was disappointed with most of the pieces I created. I've deleted most of those, because I was so upset with my inability to draw like many of my idols. Luckily some of those images survived by deletion onslaught, because now I think it's cool to go back and look at the changes.

This piece is one that I drew of Brooklyn from the TV show Gargoyles on one of his time-dancing adventures. After an undetermined amount of time traveling through the Phoenix, I figured he would have obtained more than a few scars, landing in unfamiliar eras and places, he probably had to toughen up quite a bit over a short amount of time in order to survive. I actually have some stories written about these times, some early in his adventures, some closer to the end, but I'm still deciding if I want to upload those. I have a separate account for my stories, . There are a few there now, but none with my OC.

Another reason I left DA for so long was because a lot of people were giving me shit for using one OC for all of my fandoms. I did this because my OC is a personification of me. I put her (aka myself) into the worlds that I want to escape too. I understand now that it doesn't matter what others think, but when all you get is negative comments, especially on something you've put so much time and imagination into. So I may begin to upload those stories on that account. But for now I'm going to post my art here!

Brooklyn --> Disney
Media --> Originally drawn in my notebook, scanned into my computer, then inked and coloured in FireAlpaca.

Noooooooo Brook is so scratched up  D:

I love his bangles! The celtic knot belt and armband... the braid!

Aww.    It's not fun, being discouraged about your artistic level.  But it sounds like you've come around to a better way of thinking about things.
(I can't tell what your end conclusion about references is, but using references is not a bad thing.  Even professional artists use references!)

So battle worn!

Thank you! I figured he would acquire a few new accesories along the way! I can’t decide if I like the idea of the Celtic band on his arm being a tattoo. I feel like, out of the whole clan, Brooklyn would be the one to have a tattoo by i don’t know. XD

Yeah, I kind of left that reference part open ended. XD I don’t mind using references, but I was just frustrated that I couldn’t draw without them. I had to have something to look at, I couldn’t just doodle. But now I can! This one was done with a little reference (aka, me looking at pictures of my dad through the years) cause I had never done this kind of pose before, but I like the way it turned out.

Not sure how the band on his tail stays on tho. XD
He kinda does seem like the sort who would be fine with getting a tattoo, doesn't he?  I think it'd fine either way.  Who do you think would actually do the tattoo for him?

Ohhh.  Yeah, I get that.  I was just wondering because some people have this stigma against using references period and it's not right or fair.  It just winds up stunting artists trying to learn things
Yay!
Yeah!  It turned out good ^u^

Me either to be honest. XD Just liked the little addition.

I think maybe he ended up at some point in the middle of another gargoyle clan, maybe a long time in the past or the future and he had it done then. Like it was a whole 'township' of gargoyles and they had a blacksmith, horse trianers, all that jazz. That's kinda how I think he would get it.

Oh yeah, no I have no problem using references! I just wanted to be able to do some stuff on my own. And now I can so I'm much more confident.

Niiiice!

Have you read that Timedancer fanfic or do you just come up with your own headcanon for what happened? I've read almost all of the first season and I thought that it was a script for a show at first XD

Way to go!

Oh I just made that up. XD He's got forty years to travel around, he could come across something like that at one point or another. XD

Haha, I was sure you did make that up. As with those fabrics you mentioned writing. I was just curious if you read TimedTimedancer
