Description My Super first step of Planning a doll

I've been wanting to work on this base just to try out how usable it is, I came up with these for the past few sleepless nights -- casual clothes that I wish I have or I actually own haha...

These are sketched out using my tablet and the paintbrush tool and by no means suppose to look finished or done. I'll be re-pixeling them in both pixel shading and tool shading just to experiment different shading styles.
I like the clothes and color palette I have here, the hairstyles are awfully random as well.

Most of the clothes come from Japanese magazines that I got from the Japanese bookstore above Nigiya -- and some from my very own wardrobe.

So yeah... a little insight to my thought and planning process. This is how I start before actually beginning on a doll... Mapping out where everything lays roughly and the colors I'll use. I don't use palettes laid out in a row or anything, just randomly proceed as I go along...

These are awesome! The look pretty finished to me, you get so close and then re-pixel? Wow, you're mad @_@ but they are gorge!

I've never seen anyone start pixel dolls like this! XD It looks interesting..!! How do you refine that into pixels? :0 I'd maybe like to try this... XD! Because I always have trouble laying folds with a pencil brush, but not with any other kind of brush.

Hey Chama! =waves frantically- hehe such a fan of your work!
Regarding your question, I like seeing how everything will look as an end work, whenever I go head into the doll without first planning, I end up having to tweak so much of my colors, my shadows etc etc.

So what I do is, I take a paintbrush and just sketch out the entire doll with the colors I'm planning to use, this way I can edit the colors and everything before I even start pixeling. It's really much easier for me as well since I'm using a tablet, so the folds and such pretty much flow easier rather than if I were to use a mouse (but that's personal preference)

After that, start a new layer and just re-do the entire sketch via pixel. So you don't actually refine the sketch, it's done all over again from scratch, just that now you have an outline as to how everything will look.

I think I work this way cause sketching it out in paintbrush is so much faster than if I were to plan it in my head. I hope I answered your questions!

I used to plan everything out on paper first, but now I just do it straight in photoshop hehe...

That sounds like a pretty cool method. :0 I might try it some time...! Because yeah, folds are always more realistic if you can draw them "by hand", and pixelling never feels that way. I use a tablet too, but a paintbrush is still always smoother because it has pressure sensitivity. Hmmmh. So I might give this a go, I bet it would be really helpful if I wanted to use a big base. XD

Oh gosh you planned on paper?! I've never been that dedicated, hahaha. XD I usually make everything up as I go...

Thank you
The outlines are still very sketchy and messy though, but at least it serves as a guideline as to where everything is

But it could totally be your own unique style ... they really do look completed, not at all a sketch. At least in my opinion.

Wow thanks, these aren't completed though, so I'm just laying down the guideline of shadows and highlights here haha...

Thanks!
