If I'm being honest, most of my designs carry a heavy Shredder or Skeletor vibe hahaha. Those two characters had such a strong influence on me, that I to this day equate them with badassery. I had someone suggest that "Red Hood" was actually short for "Red Hoodlum" which makes a lot of sense.Β

Very easy to see.
Ever play the Red Hood side quest on Arkham Knight? Kid's straight-up gangsta.

Hahaha I believe it! I watched the cut scenes, but I haven't actually played AK. I actually just got AA and AC! It came as a two-pack in the Xbox store on Black Friday, so I splurged and got them. I watched all of the cut scenes on youtube a long time ago, so I know what happens in the main plot, but now I get to actually play it and go on all of the side missions and stuff! I don't have a lot of time to play, though (and whenever I start, one of my kids always jacks the controller from me lol) so I'm not even very far on those two!Β

Hey, Gavin, this is sooo cool, but I'm curious: what would your Jason look like in normal civilian clothes? Do you think you could try and draw it up?

GavinMichelli In reply to vegeta127 [2016-12-28 03:26:08 +0000 UTC]
I might try it, but to be honest I don't know much about how Jason acts in his civilian guise. I just know the Judd Winick Red Hood arc, the movie, and Arkham Knight.

I love this. Such an original take, and very conscious of the history of The Red Hood. Favorited.

This could really work for an original Batman series version of Todd. Awesome, especially how he plays the psychological card on the Batman and ate Joker at the same time.

Removing the eye slits makes him so much more menacing. Even though I do like the brown jacket (because I own one of my own) I always thought he should look a bit more like a vigilante instead of just part of a motorcycle gang.

The cape also looks like it is easily removable. I could imagine him removing it, like a jedi, before battle. He isn't sneaky like Batman. He would walk through the front entrance of a villain hideout, everyone looking at him and then as soon as the cape falls down, everyone in there is screwed.Β

It can be surprising how much character background/trivia can be brought out, seemingly unconsciously, in a character design.

brilliant idea for a redesign I love it, he looks very menacing and your reasoning for the design makes a whole lot of sense, nice work.

Thanks very much!Β The reasoning was very important to me in this case.Β His current costume just seems really random, and I'm a big believer in building on a character's history.

Pretty cool! They should have gone with something like this from the beginning, keeping some of the Robin costume's aspects; the fake Jason from the original Hush storyline had something like that, I wish they had kept it for the real Jason when he came back.

I agree totally!Β I don't think that Loeb had the foresight or the stones to actually bring Jason Todd back from the dead, though.Β Chances are, no one even considered it until after Hush.Β I'm pretty sure the fans' positive reaction to JT's return was not was DC was expecting!

I like this design and I get your logic how ever even when the joker was the red hood he didn't wear a hood in this case I think "hood" is short for hoodlum , but I digress very nice redesign none the less

Ha! You know, I never even considered that! That's especially likely since the character was created in '51 (thank you, Wikipedia!), when that term was more popular than it is today. Good call.

Having the red R on the chest is still too reminiscent of the Robin costume.
π: 0 β©: 1
MultifacetedMage In reply to GavinMichelli [2013-07-03 14:44:16 +0000 UTC]
Can't that still be done and instead of it being a single stand alone "R" by itself on the Tunic maybe its a fancier design of a "R and a H"Together ergo meaning Red Hood or even a Red Hood Icon?
π: 0 β©: 1
GavinMichelli In reply to MultifacetedMage [2013-07-05 03:28:11 +0000 UTC]
You know, I actually gave a lot of thought to doing that. Red Robin has his own chest icon that's totally different from Robin's, so it wouldn't be that much of a stretch, and an RH emblem would be a natural extension of Robin's R. I really did consider both, and I also considered leaving the R off altogether. In the end, I just thought it was a little more disturbing to have Jason's traditional R, but to switch the colors up so that it almost looks like the R is laying in a pool of blood. It's like a constant reminder of what happened to Jason, and that he's the "dead" Robin. It's a symbol of innocence, but it's been twisted and tarnished by violence.
