Well he's already cost John years of misery, the pool, the discomfort caused by Irene Adler, his demolition of Sherlock's (and incidentally John's) reputation, two years grief, the angst of Sherlock's return, his life in Baker Street doing a job he loved and don't even get me started on series 3

I actually didn't start watching Sherlock until series 3 was on TV, so that I am in the slightly strange position of having seen that series first, then having got the DVDs and so far watched the pilot and series 1 - but I understand most of what you say.
