truth be told, this one was a total zen-like thing. sat down, zoned out, "woke up" to the finished piece.
while the result made me really happy, its one of those cases where "it just worked", and i didnt really, consciously, learn much from it. (maybe that is a lesson itself)

yeah, i have to say, i like that you put more focus on the knights in the finished product. were you always planning to do that, or was that an on-a-whim thing?

that must have occured to me while overpainting the sketch - while that scale difference between dragon and knights in the sketch is rather epic, it tends to look a bit one-sided, or, even worse, the knights might get lost in print. this is just an a6 size print, after all.
so, enlarging them a tad ensured their survival (omg, worst pun evar) and adding a direct adversary broke up the space in front of the dragons head into smaller shapes (i.e. more contrast in less space = more interest) and it made for more of a confrontation, a bit more of a story to see.
so yeah, i saw there wasnt enough stuff happening, and fixed it, basically.
