Nope, it doesn't look cool for me, I'm strictly against such contests. Simply because at the end, it's just risk. You can make great design, but you find yourself stuck in between five other great designs - and then it's pure luck.

Well I don't have experience with projects like this, but I think its better to try to sell some unused design than just keep that design on your computer.
