Blimey we are in for one, if we head against these guys! O.o. But the ships are most lovely, especially the sails on the sloop-o-war. How manevourable would they be compared to our own?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeneralVyse In reply to Gekster [2007-05-16 17:44:50 +0000 UTC]

hmmm dunno - probably not as maneuverable, because of the crews - but they're better ships in any case :S

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Gekster In reply to GeneralVyse [2007-05-16 18:04:27 +0000 UTC]

Oh I meant if they were used by capable and willing hands ofcourse! So would be more maneuverable were they to be for example used by one officer of a devian army? Or about the same? Less? . Their strengths are the way they are built, the armour that covers them, what else? . Curious, curious!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeneralVyse In reply to Gekster [2007-05-17 08:40:27 +0000 UTC]

they'd be excellent if we owned one, but they are slower than our ships because they are heavier...

their strengths? well look at it this way - think of a modern ship vs an age of sail ship - the modern ship is stronger by far, but the age of sail is more graceful and almsot definitely moves through the water easier than the modern one

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Gekster In reply to GeneralVyse [2007-05-17 08:45:32 +0000 UTC]

And mind you not, the age of sail ship has more style, greater beauty (fine it is not useful in battle, but perhaps one could actually feel sorry to be destroying such class, while with a new one, the feeling can't even be there ) and class. Hm, well , there be always a chance that one appears at one point in our ports and is not manned by an enemy's commander. The fact that they may be slower indeed could work in our favour .

GeneralVyse In reply to PaxAeternum [2007-05-10 08:07:56 +0000 UTC]

i look forward to seeing em - i saw in a french comic book "au fleur au fusil" a skyship with a ship for the control section - it had a prow like this as well! i cant find a pic of it so you'll have to take my word for it! lol

kay i will

PaxAeternum [2007-05-10 00:49:02 +0000 UTC]

the only thing the man of war needs are one or two steam powered uss monitor turrets, like flat topped cylendrical rotating turrets each housing two muzzle loaders

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeneralVyse In reply to PaxAeternum [2007-05-10 07:59:10 +0000 UTC]

hahhaha well too early for steam - and besides these guns have to be tied in place with slips - no other re-coil system! so they couldn't be mounted in a turret :S i really wanted to have some as well!

PaxAeternum [2007-05-10 00:46:34 +0000 UTC]

holy shit! i love the big ones with the rams, escpecially the top one with the 4 cannon decks, yer getting to my size of skyship!

Promus-Kaa [2007-05-09 03:14:36 +0000 UTC]

I love the odd fronts you've designed!! I'm a sucker for the oddities, and that feature really gives the fleet a distinctive look. Nice job!!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeneralVyse In reply to Promus-Kaa [2007-05-09 22:26:01 +0000 UTC]

thanks! you're going to have to board them and take over command eventually you know!

i like the odd-ness of the bows too, it makes them more distinctive - but also much more m,ilitary - and efficient looking...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Promus-Kaa In reply to GeneralVyse [2007-05-10 19:22:20 +0000 UTC]

Awesome, I look forward to it!!

The bows also look like they'd be more effective at ramming...and it makes them look somewhat like ironclads!! Speaking of ironclads, is it too "early in time" for us to have those in our fleet?? *ducks knife and flintlock shot*

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeneralVyse In reply to Promus-Kaa [2007-05-10 20:53:53 +0000 UTC]

hahahahaha yeah im afraid so - i wanted some turrets on these but they havent invented decent recoil systems yet - instead the guns are strapped to the ship and the recoil goes through pulleys instead of springs... - these have to be fixed to something solid so they cant be fixed to a moving turret :S

armour's too heavy for sails i think as well - the humble copper plating i have given these takes 2 knots off their speed - but they do protect the ship from rot etc-

the hull IS designed for ramming - and is about as high tech as i dare go in 1795!!! lol

i am however considering a cannon powered turbine on a very small ship - that might give a mighty 20 knots (20mph)

GeneralVyse In reply to AlexeiKazansky [2007-05-08 15:52:53 +0000 UTC]

aye! well they very futuristic for the 1795 era they're set in! i wanted to make them better than any other ships of the era - but they're not, neccessarily, as well crewed!

JanBoruta [2007-05-08 05:31:51 +0000 UTC]

112 guns... That's almost an Impstar But my frigate is capable of outmanouvering it

And the drawings are bloody well done.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeneralVyse In reply to JanBoruta [2007-05-08 15:49:59 +0000 UTC]

yeah the man o'war is a slow ship - most of our ships do 10-12 knots, but the man o war's armoured which might mean we have to go toe to toe with it for longer than normal...

if you think 112 guns is good, ive got two men o war in my own fleet - 102, and 106 guns each AND the vanquisher - which is capabel of 226 guns! - but it's basically a floating fortress - 6 knots at best and currently being used as a granary at fort arthur....

thanks btw!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JanBoruta In reply to GeneralVyse [2007-05-08 19:02:07 +0000 UTC]

Well, 112 is 3 times 36 plus 4 But we have got the speed superiority. Our smaller ships surely could bother these man o'wars for a certain amount of time, until the Vanquisher arrives.

aye! since you're attacking an outpost - the land battle ought to be easy!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kaiser-Conti In reply to GeneralVyse [2007-05-07 22:40:12 +0000 UTC]

it depends how strong will the outpost be but I also have under my command sth about 2000 men excluding the militia, artillery and your cavalry sir

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeneralVyse In reply to Kaiser-Conti [2007-05-07 22:54:51 +0000 UTC]

EXACTLY! you assault shall be a master piece - but if the new ships are anything to go by then the sea battle will be the clincher - perhaps you can give the ships fire support from your artillery?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kaiser-Conti In reply to GeneralVyse [2007-05-08 09:23:37 +0000 UTC]

well I thought that the ships will give ME fire support in extreme-situations but if there is such situation I'll do my best..but I think that my biggest field guns are 12 pounders

GeneralVyse In reply to Kaiser-Conti [2007-05-08 15:47:01 +0000 UTC]

that's about right - you can still make holes in things with them as well! hahahaha so you havent brought any siege artillery to devia with you? tut! lol
