My, my, you have placed me in a difficult position in interpreting this piece . I admit, prior to reading your author’s comment, I had a very different story attached to this senryu. However, after finding that it is a response to Fireworks, I cannot help but let the thoughts and emotions I stored there spill over here. To keep it brief, while Fireworks is from the POV of a child (young or old), I interpret this senryu to be from the perspective of the parents and their love for one another -- simple, I know .

By the way, if you’re curious about my first interpretation of this piece here it is: an illicit affair. Although I understand the connection between fireworks and gunpowder, I tend to attach negative connotations to the word “gunpowder”. It reminds me of war, violence and death. This explains why when I read the first line, I interpreted a passionate but very deadly element; as if the kiss may as well have been the trigger of a gun going off (which is a very gruesome image ).

P.S. Here's to wishing you an early Merry Christmas ! I don't think I'll be on DA until early next month so I won't be able to reply to any messages until then. Apologies!

A bit of personal history has been sent to you via note. This may perhaps enlighten your view.

As I am too late to wish you a merry christmas as well, happy new year, and may it serve to be poignant and full of inspiration.

I am infatuated with Haiku. The paradox of simple complexity. The nature of the prose-poem is to present the, well, heh, Present as-is, without the personal emotional response. I can't speak for someone else, but I'd prefer forming my own opinion anyway.

However, I rather like to sneak metaphor in where I can.

Thank you for the kind words. I think I will stop in for a bit.

I like your sig.
