I think you might enjoy Moscow, and you might even enjoy St. Petersburg more. I'd recommend visiting them at least once. I'll admit that the government there still makes it difficult, what with all their regulations and rules about announcing your presence to the police. But that's their business. My hunch is that their customs probably discourage tourists from my part of the world. And I predict this will change in the next few years. But then, I know that my country can be difficult in the same way.

I was feel the same when I was in Latvia, not very comfortable, I was just a tourist, from one of the nearest countries but I had a feeling that I'm some kind of intruder fot the citizens of Riga. I can't explain why I feel that this way, it's quite difficult. For opposite In Slovakia and Lithuania I feel great, wonderfull atmosphere, nice people

I understand. I have never visited the Baltic countries, even though I have many friends from those countries who now live in the U.S. I should go there some time.

Hey, Irene, you're bored in Moscow? I'm sorry. More shopping at GUM might help? Wandering around the Arbat? The Bolshoi? Oh well...then you must try New York City. And thanks!

Is July a good time to be there?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeraldWinslow In reply to justfrog [2008-08-10 04:42:43 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I think July is a good time. The weather was rather pleasant, though it did rain most days. Moscow is rather far north, and St. Petersburg even more so. This means that the weather is rather temperate in summer. August should also be good, but I hear that they've had a lot of rain in the past couple weeks. Oh well...just take an umbrella, or intact skin, which also turns water rather well.

Ah yes, St. Petersburg, how I would love to spend a few days in the Hermitage.

Hey Jerry! You got much better weather than when I was there (how is it you travel at nicer times of the year). I was there in a November... hmm

Yep, I'll admit I was lucky. But I should tell you that not more than a half hour later it was pouring giant trashcans full of rain.
