Often, I imagine the King (or, in my version, the Emperor). Toriyama never mentioned him seriously in the Manga. No information about the name, appearance, and his wife, or even his character. All we've seen is the anime an Movie.

I could see peoples point that this would be unlikely in canon. But remember the point of being a Grandparent is to make you children ( the parents look bad) i.e. to spoil them rotten (words of my Grandmother) also as many have pointed out given Trunk's power I think the King would be very proud of his Grandson. He also seemed very reluctant to give Freiza Vegeta, so I always understood that he cared for his son as well.
