    This was mainly inked while sitting behind the table in the art show at Dragon*Con in late summer, and then finished up in the studio. Two different brushes were used: a #2 for the mainline, and a 10/0 for the finer detail. Both hawk- and crow-quills were utilized for the extra fine lines.

    Originally, this was meant to be a rendition of Eowyn (from J.R.R. Tolkien's classic tome), but I liked the idea of the darker hair on the figure, so in the process, it has become a female warrior. Name her what you will.

    I don't have a clue how long this took to finish, as it was part of a week long inking marathon of ten finished pencil images that have been hanging around the art board (some for as long as a year). All of these are spec pieces, done in-between assignments.

Thanks, Kurai. I try to do a lot of research into armor from different cultures, and then usually end up mixing quite a bit of influence until I get the "look" that I'm after. This one was primarily European in nature, seeing as how I wanted to portray a Tolkien-type character.

Thanks! I love Dore's work, and spent a lot of time studying it when I first started out inking. He did like his rendered backgrounds, now didn't he!

Well, I do have Photo shop...just not with me! It's on my desk top back in the U.S. Here, I just have a lap top, and no good graphic editing software on it! I've been wanting to do that "influence meme" that so many deviants have been posting which shows what sources the artist likes, but I can't even put one together because I don't have the means to do so.

You know, I always pictured Eowyn with brunette hair too, until they cast her with blonde hair in the movie. So who's to say she isn't Eowyn? The final word belongs to J.R.R. Tolkein, and he isn't talking. BTW Eowyn is my favorite character in his books, second would be Glorfindel, who got cut... but I understand it was necessary to have more romantic emphasis.

Yep. I always lament the fact that one of my favorites, Tom B., always gets the axe from any adaption. Eveyone considers the trip through the old forest to be a side trip, but it is where the hobbits get their blades forged by the men of Westernese (sp.) which Tolkien states was part of why Merry's stab was so deadly to the Witch-King.
