Description Watercolours and Indian Ink.

Just a little something for November. I feel like I've been doing a lot of fiddly close-up paintings lately and wanted to do something with a bit more landscape in it. It's alright, I guess. I like the way the sky turned out.

I like the palette used ... The blue grays really make the leaves pop.  Also, framing and implied diagonal to the hill top subject is excellent. A+++

Wow, thank you for the in-depth comment! I wasn't sure about the palette but I agree that it does make the leaves pop.

Hi:
Thanks!  The following may be more than you want to know.  But, just in case, and since I like De-vlaminck's work in general.

The hues reminded me of some of Maurice De-vlaminck's use of color ... although your production is not like his artwork.   I can't find the one that I remember but, this winter scene will give you some idea even though the warm tones are muted in the following.

See "Snowstorm" by Maurice de Vlaminck at a page for it, www.wikiart.org/en/maurice-de-… or the image of the painting itself uploads8.wikiart.org/images/ma… .

I can tell that you know a lot more about art than I do. I know a little bit of colour theory and the like but mostly I just put paint to paper. XD
But yes, I can see how the colour schemes are quite similar.

Hi,
Your paint to paper works well and the use of color theory is good.  A natural, maybe?

So thank you but, ... no, I came at this through about 10+ years of photography.  I have a Roku on relevant TVs, and a networked media server on Linux ... So about five years ago, I became interested in changing my phtography to art .... or psuedo-art ... or ???  So, I downloaded every art history course (*), how to, color theory, etc that I could and watched them .... instead of TV when doing other things and so the head is full of that ... no expert here ... I just know what I like ... like most people.  I do anything to avoid the downer TV here.   But, you are very kind.

I said all of that to say. I am now at the point of trying to put paint to paper and to draw in 2016.   So, I think there is much to learn.

Well, there's certainly an unmistakeable passion for art!

I started an online Linux course a couple of months ago and then had a long break from it over Christmas. I enjoy the challenge of it but it also keeps me from painting. I haven't painted anything since starting that course and I really need to find a better balance. I avoid TV too - I find most of the things that pass for entertainment to be rather infuriating and mind-numbing.

Best of luck with putting paint to paper! It'll be interesting to watch your style develop.

Regarding: "putting paint to paper!"
Yes!  I just have to do it as you do.  I want to actually be able to touch the brush strokes.  I do not possess and probably could not afford a printer that could produce such things.  I have the thought, the materials now, and I just need to do it.  As a long term photographer ... I just got tired of the perfection of the camera.  Part of a quote I like: "Impressionism has induced the study of what we see and shown us that we all see differently; it has done good to photography by showing that we should represent what we see and not what the lens sees . . .

"Regarding Linux"
It is a tool that can be configured to do many things and worth knowing. In learning it ... just do as you do with the painting ... just use it.   I really only use my Windows system for my photo applications (i.e., Photoshop and its plugins, Corel Painter, etc). I am typing this on a Linux Mint 17.2 "KDE", tower. In case you have not been there Distrowatch, is a good distribution reference site:
distrowatch.com/table.php?dist…
I wish you the best success with it!

I have actually been using Linux for many years now but my husband has always been in charge of installing and maintaining it on our various machines so I don't really have a deep understanding of it. I find using the GUI easy enough but I struggle with the command line so that is what I'm focusing on learning.
Linux Mint is one of my favourite distros - it's user friendly without being too bloated. Great choice!

Here's a link to the course I'm doing just in case you're interested:
www.edx.org/course/introductio…
It was really easy until I got to the command line chapter. Then I suddenly had to start taking notes.

I have a Windows partition too but I hardly ever use it any more now that I'm moving away from digital art. I guess I still use it for scans.

I did development on Linux and before that UNIX systems for years and Smalltalk to assembly language, but, grew weary (BSEE) ... came to just hate it ... today, I just like an Impressionist view of my OS (i.e., LinuxMint, I don't have to build the world from source code).  So I probably don't need the course ... or I may need it ... things do change.  But, thank you ... and this is me ruuunnnning away

Command line is useful and scripting is also if you have something you need to do  and of course you know about man pages.  I applaud your efforts, my wife always calls me, even for the hated Windows systems ... inhouse systems support here .... actuallly why I am up right now.  Enjoy, but, really I would rather be out using my DSLR,  I came to hate it  .... so don't burn out ... take breaks

Bed for me.
