Description just some select faces from the many pages of faces I draw when I have nothing in mind. For these, I don't generally see the whole face first, I put the pencil to the paper and go with the flow and its very freeing. The combinations (of eyes to noses to chins etc.) are endless!

Well my biggest influences are Capcom artists, Hayao Miyazaki, Gurihiru, Studio Bones, and Jeff Smith so if you just look into those areas, you may see some similarities.

thanks for the comment!

What are your tips to drawing all these different faces? I have no idea how to mix them up

Gingashi In reply to ayenlou [2009-10-14 03:16:58 +0000 UTC]

Definitely observe the faces of people around you (just not staring rudely of course) and take mental notes of all you see- the diversity and the shapes that make up people's faces.
And second, it's helpful to study various styles of drawing to understand how different artists handle faces and try your own hand at them.
to get such a variety - studying a variety.
practicing bold cartoony shapes was fun and helpful for me. Even if you aren't into that style- it helps to get the mind thinking about the possibilities cartoony faces can have. As I went along, I pulled my inspirations and my own style together to form what you see now- but the principle of shape creation is still within it.

Sweet, thank you so much! That was really helpful. I'll keep that in mind next time I'm drawing people's faces. New knowledge is always greatly appreciated. Thank you so much again

Ah, I wish people would do more things like this. I need to myself. Combos really are endless; there's really no excuse for so many similar-looking faces in art.

I wish people would keep this in mind while doing my expressions meme, too... guh.

thank you. I try to make lots of types of faces but I also know sometimes a style in it of itself can create some parameters for how features are drawn- and that can be ok too as long as the parameters still give the artist room to breath and grow. All I know is that I would get tired drawing the same shapes over and over again.

thanks- well it's a combination of multiple pages. But, a single page doesn't take much more than a couple minutes as these are fast doodles.
